Description
"Then Thingol fortified the marches of his realm, and went not to war, nor any out of Doriath save Mablung and Beleg, who were unwilling to have no part in these great deeds."From "The Silmarillion" by J.R.R. Tolkien
---------------------------------------------------------------
My entry for the "This Is War" contest from
Beleg and Mablung, fighting side by side in The Fifth Battle, Nirnaeth Arnoediad. Nowhere in The Silmarillion does it say with what host they fought, being the only ones to ride from Doriath. I tend to think they fought with Turgon and the host of Gondolin, since they made a good escape. In the background Thangorodrim looms, shrouded in smoke from it's craters and dust from the battle.
Here apparently they already lost their helmets
Hope you all enjoy!

You know, after looking at this one some more - not to mention some others, there's an echo of another old favourite artist of mine: Larry Elmore. This could be a book cover fo' shizzle, man!

Elmore! I used to be in awe of that guy!!!! It might just be that I have been influenced by him way back. Nostalgia my friend.

Same here, buddy.
I was frowned upon in high school for my allegiance to fantasy works.
I just wasn't into the hip, new-agey, gotta-make-a-staement B.S. everyone was doing.
Tell me a story, people! I don't want to look at your funky coloured chair and your painting isn't helping me relate to your views on tyranny amongst goat-clans of the Southern-Alps....
Yeah, there's no such thing......
Anyway, I could never be an art critic. My nose is too low to the ground. I see something I like, then that's it!
Elmore, Jeff Easly, Keith Parkinson - they were it when I was growing up.
I couldn't really get into Clyde Caldwell - too much jewel usage in everything...
Nostalgia indeed.

You name the names that matter my friend. I've been playing Dungeons & Dragons (and many related games) since I was thirteen, and still do with the same group . Has been keeping us together and seeing each other once a week for the past 23 years!!! Those illustators graced the insides of many a rulebook. I'm no fan of bejewelled images. I like 'm grim and grounded as you well know.

Grim & Grounded kicks ass!!!
I still have a box packed with a ton of miniatures, and a castle with removeable tops on the towers and the keep.
Still going strong on gaming, eh? It seems a bit absent in these parts. Wrong area of town maybe.....

it is such an amazing job T____T (and now I remember why I never liked Thingol )
I love the way you showed that they're surrounded by ennemies but fighting anyway though they're the only one who come from Doriath.
good luck with your house
