To be honest, when I post dolphin photo, I always feel the strong tendency to disable comments. Why? Because I am not only tired, but FED UP with kids who just saw the Cove and now they consider themselves experts on dolphin captivity. Do not bother, kids. I know ALL those arguments, I used to be anti-dolphinariums as well. But then I read much more info and facst and even some interesting information about your god O'Barry. So all I can recommend is: USE YOUR BRAIN AND STUDY THE ISSUE PROPERLY BEFORE YOU MAKE AN OPINION - and SURELY BEFORE YOU START TEACHING ME!I, of couse, respect opinions of people who are very interested in an issue, read many books and are still against the dolphin captivity. I have NO problem with that. But I will be always annoyed by kids who base all their attitude on ONE movie, which is in fact no documentary, but rather ideology based movie.

The animal was NOT forced to leave the water and get on the shore. Next time the trainer asked the dolphins to get outside of water, they refused to do that and trainer just laughed. Of course, dolphins were fed PROPERLY. Famous "ohmgggdz, if dolphinz do not performz, they has no fishey and starvezzzz" is only a myth spread by activists.

Location: warm and temperate tropical oceans worldwide
Size: 2 - 4 metres long weight: 150 – 650 kg
Diet: fish, cephalopod, crustacean
Conservation status: Least Concern
Interesting facts: dolphin is a mammal, not a fish! Baby dolphins always drink mother milk | dolphins have bigger brains, than humans | dolphins usually live in groups | dolphin is one of few animals, who kill not only for food! Dolphins are well-known for killing porpoises, their smaller "cousins". Male dolphins are also known to rape the females. Male dolphins even kill baby dolphins to make their mothers want to mate again. Dolphins are not that cute and nice animals, as many people think. They have no problem to kill a shark and they sometime annoy or sexually harass swimmers in the sea | dolphins use very effective echolocation to search for prey | dolphins are time to time found washed ashore, too often dying – nobody knows, why this happens.

There is a term in media called "aid fatigue". A good example is the bombardment on our senses about how desperate peoples in poor countries are for the basic necessities of life. It gets tiresome. All of it is all bullshit made up by anthropocentric spin doctors trying to guilt trip you into sending money or moral support.
Here is how this is related to dolphins and conservation: Some islands in the Pacific routinely capture dolphins for food and sale to oceanariums. Dolphin sales give them extra income and hopefully lift them out of poverty. But they're still living in squalor! No one should ever be moved to compassion by human poverty at the sacrifice of the environment! We all depend on the environment!
We live in the 21st century; therefore, no culture should ever be hunting cetaceans for food! And yes, I, and others of like thought, am well justified to criticize other cultures who have abhorrent practices. We who value animals and the environment over people are not the villains. It's those anthropocentrists, who are idiots (especially those in rich countries), who are. They are the enemies of the poor, because they lock them in a cycle of poverty in their misguided efforts to raise their standard of living. Noone in the Third World needs to live like someone in the industrialized world! The planet can't support the population we have!
It's funny how all this aid is sent to developing countries and yet we don't observe any results to improve their lot. Yet when we send money to environmental efforts and animal welfare we actually get results. Helping the environment and animals has direct benefits to humans.
Someone has to be a complete idiot to believe every human is obligated to value the needs of humans over this planet and its other citizens. That someone is an even bigger idiot if he uses religion to justify his views. What makes us human is the ability to choose. We who choose the Earth and its non-human citizens over people have made the right choice. We don't try to stop anthropocentrists from helping other people so they should extend us the courtesy by shutting up and staying out of our way when we try to make this a better place to live.

Beautiful lighting, which enables the gorgeous, unique, natural colors in this photograph. I love the closeness, and really the colors make this photo! It is rare to be able to get natural dolphin coloration without some gaudy blue hues. Lovely job!

Interesting. I assume conditions vary from venue to venue, but seeing as the positive reinforcement, zero punishment, clicker training methods for dogs was adapted from training methods used for dolphins.... I would assume dolphin training is years ahead of dog training in that regard.... and therefore pretty darn progressive. But I never really thought about that.

As I like your work I don't like the comment - you want people to respect you, while you call them "kids" - this is humiliating. But it is your choice of expression...
Bottlenose dolphin's brain is bigger than human brain. Dolphins are aware of themselves - they look in the mirror and see selves. They also call each others by names and probably use more sounds to communicate than us. Only because they haven't develop sense of power and greed doesn't mean that they enjoy captivity more than you would enjoy being kept captive.
I am pretty much against any animal captivity, because humans have not right to decide about another species fate, but I don't think it's gonna change any soon...
If being close to wild species, taking good popular pictures of them and have a chance to hug a fox or two justifies for you keeping such genuine creatures as dolphins, limited to some tank filled with water - it's your choice and conscious. Maybe you would consider becoming wild nature photographer - much more challenge and real wilderness experience.
I love animals myself, I'd love to see and pet all of them, but I have this thought, that if the fact, that I didn't have a chance to ever see them, would save their lives and guarantee them free wild life I would never try to meet them...

Unlike your idealist crying, ZOOs in fact really DO save animal species, even returning them back to the wild, saving whole populations.
Zoos ACT to save the animals - yet you, in the name of your unrealistic idea "freeeeee animalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas for all the coooooosts!" in fact make their work more difficult.
Yeah. I in fact really despise all those people who - although they have NEVER done anything to really help the animals - are critizing the ZOOs and dolphinariums.

I am currently figthing against a travelling dolphin show, which is supposed to arrive to my country in two weeks. In fact, I am right now writing a letter for a minister of my country, trying to stop this travelling dolphin circus.
You know how much all those famous antidolphinarium activist like O Barry helped us?
They... did.... NOTHING.
nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooothing.
They focus only on modern and estabilish dolphinariums. And they absolutely do not care about much worse issues like travelling dolphin circus in the middle of Europe.
This gave me the final drop - I now see that most of antidolphinarium activists are hypocrites. I - although I support modern dolphinariums - do much more to stop that circkus that those, who LOUDLY shout ALL DOLPHINS MUST BE FREEEEE!, but when it comes to acting, they do not move their butt.
Yes, you are right - they have ABSOLUTELY no respect from me.

And no, I do not want to be wildlife photograher. Any good dolphinarium and any good ZOO gave much more good for animals than ANY of you - idealists, who keep TALKING about "oooooooooooooooh, every animal should be FRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!". ZOOs ACT to help the animals. Most of you idealists only taaaalk and sign petitions. Yet you still consider yoursellf better than those specialists and ZOO workers.

ona hlavně jeho původní ZOO je velmi problematická, částečně jde údajně o černou stavbu a hrozí, že se bude zavírat. Vůbec nechápu, proč Hrubý mluví o rozjezdu nového a extrémně náročného projektu, když nemá zajištěný osud zvířat, která nastěhoval do nezajištěného zařízení. Ten člověk mi přijde zmatený, jeho jednání zcela postrádá koncepci :/

no jéje! Větrovy Tábor je jeho ZOO, stojí částečně načerno a jsou tam velké potíže. Slyšela jsi o tom gepardovi, co ho vypiplali ve Dvoře Králové? Bylo mi řečeno, že chvilku po jeho převozu na Větrovy uhynul.

No jo, voni z Bruseli hlásili, že sami mají málo^^ Hele nějak si vůbec celý to delfinárium neumím v našich podmínkách představit, jsme zkorumpovanej vnitrozemskej kocourkov, jehož občané si permanentně stěžujou, že na nic nemají peníze - rodiny si radši vyrazí na vejlet do nějakého obchodního centra. A když už někoho přepadne touha vidět roztomilé delfíní čumáčky, tak si zajede do Norimberka a spojí to s návštěvou obchoďáku, protože v Německu je přece všechno lepší a levnější...On ten Norimberk vlastně celému projektu dělá medvědí službu.

Well, nothing is wrong with them, some just take it to the extreme. They get nuts. Some people are actually true and want equality between men and women, which is fine, nothing wrong with that. Just most go complete bonkers.

There was one story were a woman took a man, tied him up, raped him, and left him like that for 2 days or something (I read this story about a year back...) and female activists were giving her praise.
Lets say it was a man. A man took a woman, tied her up, and raped her and left her for 2 days before letting her go. Doesn't get the same feeling does it? Because female activist took the incident in the wrong direction. They think its equality if they physically cause harm to a man, but in reverse its a man dominating over women. Lol.
Again, not ALL are doing it the wrong way. The right to vote, schooling, jobs...etc is great. But in the USA sometimes things get messed up in what's okay and what isn't. Right now they are saying Women are making less than Men doing the same job. Now, that isn't okay. Women who fight for that, are right. We shouldn't make less just because we are women. : P
