I adored the Gobots toys as a kid; their vehicle modes tended to be much more solid and cohesive than the transformers toys I had, and were often more interesting vehicles in the initial line. My own Spay-C, Dive-Dive, Small Foot, Hans Cuff, Turbo, Night Ranger, and Royal-T saw almost constant play. Unfortunately, the cartoon sucked, and gave most of them terrible animation models and annoying personalities and voices.

On the other hand, it established that a significant portion of the cyborg Gobots- heroic Guardians and terrorist Renegades alike -were female. In contrast, the Transformers took over fifty episodes to introduce any female-identified characters of the same species as the heroes, and several more years before a toy would come out.

Hasbro owns the rights to these characters, and homages to them have started showing up- the Decepticon "Fracture" is meant to be the Renegade "Crasher", and an homage to the forklift Spoons is coming out for the Revenge of the Fallen toyline; a combination of club exclusive stories and online exclusive toys have brought back Bug Bite, Pathfinder, Small Foot, Road Ranger, Bad Boy, and Treds. Hopefully the trend will continue, and some will show up alongside the Autobots and Decepticons in future media....
