Description Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! I know this isn't Christmas-themed, but it's a piece I just happened to finish last night.

Here we have my favorite character in yet another promising indie pilot, The Amazing Digital Circus. After watching the pilot myself, I watched just about everyone's reaction to it, so it's admittedly gotten old. But I'm certainly looking forward to additional episodes, which seem to be in store based on official sources. I'm curious to see where they'll go with each of these humans-turned-zany inhabitants of a goofy, dystopian VR world.

I LOVE Michael Kovach's characters, and Jax is no exception (Angel Dust and Rocky are the other two I'm familiar with). Like Angel, he's conniving with a charming physique, but unlike Angel, he doesn't seem to have any compassion in him. The smirk he often wears is icing on the cake, and I think his relaxed approach to malice separates him from the mean characters that get on my nerves.

This piece was done with nothing more than colored pencil, felt pen (for the outlines), and 24 lb printer paper. The idea came when I was doing a rough sketch of Jax on a piece of scrap paper, and decided to add a background of various shapes for a full color drawing, which I felt captured the nature of both Jax and his place of imprisonment. I went over my pencil with one of my rollerball pens, erased the pencil, and scanned it before blowing it up in Word. As great as it would've been to print it out, and then color it like a coloring page, I had made a couple noticeable mistakes in the original drawing, so I printed the enlarged drawing out, taped it on my light table with another sheet of paper over it, and used that drawing as a guide. I did the shapes, the background, and Jax's body in the respective colors first before finishing with the outlines. In keeping with my interpretation of zaniness, none of the shapes are completely straight-sided.

I'm a little bothered by my lack of roundness in the top left third of Jax's head. I'll also admit his feet aren't show-accurate, but I don't see that as a detriment here. Lastly, I'll say that if I was doing this piece again, I would probably use a nicer paper.

Nevertheless, I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.
