From an early age, Elora decided to pursue a career as a Paranormal Investigator. However, due to roughly 200 years of ghost hunting and advancements in magic, such a career wasn't considered as lucrative anymore. Despite this, Elora pushed on and graduated from the Marrilynne Institute for Magic and Alchemy, having met all the criteria to be considered a professional. But her childhood dream would have to be put on hold as she was contractually obligated to serve in the current war.

With the enemy agreeing to a ceasefire, Elora returned home and got to work. While tough at first, she quickly found clients willing to hire her to preform cleansing rituals on their houses, despite them already owning adequate magic charms designed to protect their home from gruesome intruders. The guilt of this did cause her to explain that the cleansing rituals were highly unnecessary, but most either didn't understand or were too paranoid to take the chance and desired the ritual to be extra safe.

Even though Elora was seeing success, it wasn't the success she'd envisioned, so she got to work with her own research. One thing she'd notice since the beginning of her studies, at a certain point, ghost could become so powerful that they would resist most magical attacks. While this might seem like a big problem, no ghost is resistant to having their essence consumed by a Protection Crystal. Despite it being an effective way to remove powerful ghosts, Elora wasn't convinced it was the only way. Remembering back to her alchemy studies, she found a lot of problems were solved with the creation of new potions. Her reasoning being that people could carry vials of the potion and splash it on ghosts in order to vanquish them. She got to work immediately by mixing up brews with ingredients known to ward of ghost. With each new brew, Elora would place a Protection Crystal containing a powerful spirit inside the mixture, then wait to see if there was a reaction. While on some tests it certainly did appear the crystal reacted with the brew, the ghost inside still seemed fine. The results gave Elora a lot of optimism that she was on the right track and she continued for days, documenting each experiment, until, on her 137th attempt, she dropped the Protection Crystal inside the cauldron, causing a reaction she hadn't noticed before. The excitement was short-lived as a whoosh of fire erupted out from the iron pot and engulfed the elf in flames. Once the fire died down, the ghostly remains rose up and began laughing at Elora until the spirit faded in the fire, disappearing from this world forever.
Elora awkwardly pointed at herself and said, "I'm not sure if that's a failure or success."

Realizing the potion would be too dangerous for the user, Elora decided to shelf the research for now and focus on something else.
