I had so much trouble with the face, but overall I'm very happy with the final result.

This is my entry for the mere-fae event at .

Without further ado, a short story on how my baby Zahir ended up spending the day as a merfae.

     Zahir walked quietly down the shoreline, kicking small stones and clumps of sand as he went. Hatsya had gone into the nearby village for supplies and Zahir was left to amuse himself until he returned the next day. Cool wet sand clung to the fur on his feet as his steps ventured closer to the water's edge. As he kicked at a particularly large clump of sand, Zahir noticed a glimmer of something partially buried nearby.

     Zahir carefully pulled the object free from the damp earth to find a cracked glass sphere. Curious, he held the orb up towards the sun to get a better view of its contents. Within the trinket was a replica of a tiny sunken ship with small fish floating along beside it.

It almost looks real, he thought.

The clouds parted and sunlight reflected off of the glass, blinding the young fae. As he closed his eyes, he felt the cracked object in his hand give way, followed by the sensation of its liquid contents spilling over his body. Rubbing at his eyes, it took him a minute to realize that the wet feeling wasn't going away. If anything, it felt almost like being underwater. Opening his eyes he was surprised to see pieces of a full sized ship layed out on the ground in front of him.

     Zahir attempted to take a step back, only to find that legs and wings had been replaced by a tail and fins. Strangely, he found that swimming with his new appendages came naturally. He caught sight of a bright orb floating nearer to the ship, inside a view of the grassy clearing near his and Hatsya's temporary home. Nothing he did seamed to have any effect on this new, unblemished object and he settled down to explore for a bit.

Hatsya better hurry up and figure out how to fix this. I really don't want to spend my life as a freaking fish.
