The Late model fw-190s were pretty high up there in my opinion. Β If I had to pick one wwII plane to fly..Id be hard pressed to pick one.....
most German aircraft were remarkably elegant looking, and ad a style that is almost instantly recognizable.Β
they had excellent short range and tactical bombers, and fighters and their use of both for close air support made their early victories possible.
TheΒ Messerschmitt Me 264 condor bomber would have been a real menace as a long range heavy bomber if it handt been restricted to naval recon and long range naval attacks....on top of that it just loks good.
the Ju-88 and Dornier 117 were faster than most bombers, and pretty agile..unfortunately they lacked anything even remotely like an effective defense...and Goering used them in ways they were never meant to be used.....
And dot even get me started on the way they dropped the ball on jet development.... which i suppose is a good thing.. the allies never had to face a fighter that was totally superior to theirs in large numbers.

The Pacific Campaign got bad for he Allies. Since there was a Japanese pusher fighter called the Kyushu J7W1 Shinden (Magnificent Lightning). It had great armour, a high top speed ( At least 500-640 mph). And the aircraft was the most maneravable fighter. It even had a set of 4x33.00mm cannons in the nose with incendiary rounds. Thus, a lot of bombers were lost to this machine. Even P-51D Mustangs were lost.Β Β

I'm reading "Fly for Your Life" about Wing Commander Robert Tuck of the RAF in WWII. He mentions being bounced by a squadron of Me 109s, the yellow noses indicating they were a crack squadron. I'm curious if that's why this one has a yellow nose.
