Description ๐Ÿฆ‡Franquet's epauletted bat๐Ÿฆ‡

Latin name: Epomops franqueti

IUCN status: Least concern

Where to be found ๐Ÿค”
Franquet's epauletted bat can be found over a huge range, it can be found in western Africa from Cote dโ€™Ivoire through Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon, south to Angola and Zambia. It is common in most of the countries.

These medium sized fruit bars are not that social compared to other species of fruit bat and prefer to be solitary or reside in much smaller groups. ๐Ÿฆ‡

Behavior ๐ŸŽถ
This species has a variety of calls. It squawks when it is fighting and emits a nasal shriek when in danger or distress. Males call persistently throughout the night with only short breaks for feeding. Research suggests that these calls are used to attract estrus females. ๐Ÿ–ค

Predation ๐Ÿ–
This species of bat is popular in the bushmeat trade, and as a result, humans in various countries actively hunt this species. Although little information is available on the major predators of this bat,ย  it is likely carnivorous birds and snakes prey on them. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฆ…

Ecosystem roles ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿซ
This bat is a frugivore and is likely an important seed disperser throughout its range. It also occasionally forages on flowers, which suggests that it may also play a marginal role as a pollinator. ๐ŸŒบ

Specimen comes from an old collection.
