Description
A simple little test picture, trying out a method of making shading and lighting the Moonflowers a little easier on me. It worked just fine, so I'm satisfied. And now, because I like to yap-
Previously, the emotion colors (here being white) were originally on the same layer as the other colors, but because of the way the moodgleam material blends into a moonflower's "hair" and/or clothes, I'd end up having to color the lineart too. I'd either have to color it the same color as the hair/outfit, or the same as the emotions, or sometimes both. When it came time to shade, this presented issues, because if I colored the lineart the same as the clothing, I'd have to futz with that and try to match it up with the shaded colors. And if I had any change of heart later, I'd have to basically start over with that, selectively coloring the lineart again. On the flip side, if I wanted to edit the moodgleam at all, that'd necessitate fixing the color layer too, because the now-changed lineart didn't line up with the colors anymore. It was frankly a pain and made it take way longer than it had any right to.
ANYWHO, to circumvent all that mess, the emotions/moodgleam is now entirely separate and on its own solitary layer, above the color layer but below the lineart, allowing me to happily shade the colors however I want. I can easily edit the moodgleam and lineart without having to worry about fixing something else up as a consequence, too. It adds another layer to the picture, but it ends up being much easier to manage and faster to do in the end.
