This is so great x)
At first sight, I thought: What is thiiiis?
At second sight, I thought: Oh, alright, looks like manymany brushes.
And then...: WOW, OMG, this is just perfect, the colors fit, the shapes are so clear, everything was made so carefully and ........
Someone looking at it can't help but be fascinated. I am stunned, really.

Thank you. This is done in a fractal program called Apophysis 7X, there are no brushes or anything like that involved.

Amazing work. How long does something like that take to render?

Thank you. It only took me an hour to render this one.

Really? I was thinking days. My little experiments with Apophysis usually take many hours to render, and they don't seem nearly as complex.

I have a partition on my CPU specifically for fractals. It clears up virtual memory and lets me render huge pieces, and with my quad processor I can do it in very little time. For example I made a render last night at 5000x3500 in under 4 hrs.
The processor and ram are essential for Apo and having a section of my cpu that is dedicated to fractals also helps alot.

If you are running windows XP you can create a new user just for fractaling (thats what I did) then once there go to you memory and max out your virtual memory. It makes a HUGE difference in rendering.

Very nice. Thanks much for the tip. Is there a similar way to do that for Vista? I have a laptop with XP, but my desktop is running Vista and is overall a much better computer.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about Vista. When I bought my new machine I payed extra to get XP instead of vista, which was free. I would think that you can find the user option in the control panel but I can't be sure. Sorry.
