Wow, the amazing stupity of the human race. This piece was submitted at the end of May, and it is still getting comments.

The first thing that many people are forgetting is that whether or not the admins are censoring art and/or people on the site does not matter. Debating over this is futile. The fact is the admins own this site, but allow we deviants to enjoy it. They can censor or ban anyone they damn well please because this thing, DeviantArt, is theirs, not ours. The first amendment applies to various things submitted into public domain and controlled by the government. It does not exactly apply to a community that deviants join. In joining, we are giving the admins the power censor us regardless of ourconstitutional rights.

You chose to join DeviantArt. If you do not like what the Powers That Be of DA are doing, then make your own art community. Then you make your own decisions about censoring, and the only person you can bitch at is yourself.

Long live the Powers That Be!!

Some people need to ease up... ART and deviantART is not the same thing.. being deviant is being out of the norm, not following the guidelines, etc, etc.. so under that definition, the pieces i expect to find on [link] are NOT general [insert famous artist here]'s work, but something different.. that doesn't imply, however, that there SHOULDN'T be any real art on here, just that people should take it easy before jumping to conclusions on what art is and what should/shouldn't be posted..

so people, CALM THE FUCK DOWN and get a sense of humor for christs sake.. x0rcist clearly didnt want to write a genuine letter to the admins explaining the situation, but use his freedom as a deviant and post a piece expressing his feelings.. however that might be, i think it was done EXTRAORDINARILY well.. sometimes simplistic is the way to go.. a douche bag holding his crotch in front of DA??? CLASSIC!
and people who are examining this behind a copyright issue.......... i mean REALLY.... ugghh... after all, correct if im wrong, but deviantART is a community where a majority of its member base is in its teens/early 20's... so that 'kiddie' comment and the whole attitude against immature behaviour really makes you look like a sad old fart thinking he can bring 'knowledge' from his life experience.. pleeassee... have a smile in your life, you sad sad man..

Judging this piece technically, as you know, is the wrong angle since it took me no more than 5 minutes to do. Some heads are just too thick to understand the concept of expression. The knee-jerk reactionists are in full effect 'round these parts and they seemingly can't handle a point of view that they may not agree with. Sad really.

In response to everyone who claims that this is "shit art" and "takes no talent" I'll say this....I agree....ex0rcist can probably do much more worthwhile art but, BUT.....let's not forget our last viset to the art museum, huh? Remember that green canvas with the blue circle on it....how about the piece of steel with a X burned in it.....or the seemingly meaningless scribble that loks like a blown up donkey spleen if you stare at it long enough....my point is that "talentless" art is also in museums...and people PAY to see it....and museums PAY to have people see it.... I'm not saying that kust because its in a museum, that it's good art....

but that's besides the fact that ex0rcist probably just posted this as an expression of.....whatever....

Hey x0rcist, how many people do you think actually clicked the link you put in the discription of the picture? Im reading these comments, and im thinkin....like...maybe five? Out of 5000+ views. Maybe you should have made giant ascii arrows pointing to the link or pasted the entire site's text content into your discription. Oh yeah, and x0rcist, are you amazed as well at the number of people that what you posted just flies over their head? I mean, you posted it for its meaning....the main thing that is trying to be conveyed is what is in the link, but everyone is commenting on the picture you posted like its the main subject.... Do people do that when someone posts poetry and has a picture avatar for each submitted poem? The reason im addressing you, x0rcist, is because for me i feel like what i say just falls on deaf ears so i might as well communicate with at least on person who cares.

It gets to the point of what x0rcist is thinking, i'm not saying i agree with all the bullshit in the forums, and i admit that jark was right in what he did, but that should be the end of it. Some people got banned, big fucking whoop, yeah they were great. but that's all they had going for them, if you break the rule, pay the consquence and quit your bitching.

its easy to see 50 percent have no real opponion just see its a dialy top faves then add it to there faves simply because "if they agree it MUST be good" .

when that guy asked "Why?" you added it your favorite he never said it was wrong he simply asked why the hell you'd like such a peice of s**t that YOU yourselves could make?

also this is completely un original.

be like che geuvaria or del la rach or martin luther king. right speeches give lectures express your oppnoion intelligentlly you stupid mindless fucks. were not saying its not ok to post your opponion we just wish if your gonna take the fucking time to post it try not wasting are time and putting some thought into it there for making it worthwhile for our viewing while we could be viewing something not so unoriginal.

most of these people can't think of anything ebeter to say then simply go "HAHAHAHAHA GOOD ONE" cause all they do is fucking agree with people because there push over little fucks that are never going to amount to anything in there life and end up working at macdonalds and being drugdealers at the street corner.

be innovative be original

most importantly

i think all that shit with five just shoes how stupid the deviantart community has become and why stupid shit like this is favored and gets "Favorites" this takes no talent. deviantart is about art not freaking censorship. that woudln't be an issue if you people took the time to read the rules. YOU don't pay to goto this ssite use this site i'm sure they do though. they don't owe you a god damn thing the rest of you are just too unappreacitive . i bet you all are spoiled little brats who are beaten by there parents. anyway i think we should form a more "elite" community and tell these idiots to go screw themeselves :[

If you "rip" from a mag like Modern Quilting (if there is such a thing), there probably wouldn't be a problem because people would never notice.

That is absolutely correct. I would say upwards of 80% or so of my stuff is infact coincidentally a direct rip of Modern Quilting pieces. The other 20% are from Knit By Number

Napster's sole intent was *not* the organization and distributin of copyrighted works. Nor were they directly making a profit off the service they provided (at least no more than this community). I believe that napster was originally intended for unknown artists to be able to get their name and music to the public. It was the users that started violating the contract that they signed when they downloaded the software and created their accounts that brought in the copyrighted material. Where they dug their grave was by not enforcing their own agreement. But they figured that they weere safe because they weren't actoally hosting the music, but rather offering a tool to seek it. DA ads the extra burden of hosting your files. What killed napster was popularity due to publicity and word of mouth. The RIAA would rather have those millions of napster subscribers paying inflated prices on cd's so they can keep most of the profits while giving the artists a small share. So they finally decide to challenge them legally when they get too popular.

I have admired the work here for quite some time and I hope to continue to do so. I have negleted to join till this point becasue I only dabble in photography as a hobby and would rather see the space used by the people with the amazing talent that I admire. I finally chose to join to try and save DA from being sacrificed in the name of "free speech". This is not a matter of censoring art as "art", but as copyright infringement. They are not deleting art because it offends them. They are doing it as a safeguard against lawsuits from something that is easily recoginizable (in their eyes) as a copyrighted work. I'm sure this is a daunting task that noboby in these forums could accomplish without offending a few people. I am also sure that they take no joy in it. But it is their job to keep this place up and running. That involves working in an EXTREMELY grey area that is still in debate in the courts. The most you can do is give your opinion on the matter, which most people have, and move on. But this is not the place to argue copyright law. We can't even get a clear decision out of our government when it pretains to the internet. The sad fact is that they are forced to judge for themselves by the trends they see in today's society. They may make mistakes from time to time, but they are only human and have the best interests ot the community in mind. This is just business, not personal. The business part of this site is the agreement that you signed on the way in. You may argue that it is not "ethical" to delete their art, but I feel that they are well withing their rights as the owners of this website. Just the art isn't shown here does not mean that it ceases to exist. Create another forum for it and run it the way you see fit. The community may suffer, but at least it's still here. They don't make the laws, but are forced to enforce them as they interpret.

I do not believe in my last post I ever called this "our" community and implied that I considered myself a member yet. I am an outside observer and have no ties to either side. So my opinions are fairly unbiased. It's only my first day with an account. I'm sure you contributed alot on your first day, but I need more than 12 hours. Especially since I was sleeping for 8 of them.

On a final note, I'll address copyrighted material as "questionable". It is indeed not. Questionable is defined by my source (Mirriam-Webster) as "undesirable, offensive" and undesirable is defined as "unwanted". I would assume that they do not take offensive to the art, but the legal problems associated with posting it on their machines and website. The level of risk in tempting a large, powerful copyroght holder may also play a part. If you "rip" from a mag like Modern Quilting (if there is such a thing), there probably wouldn't be a problem because people would never notice.
