Asami Ishii is the Ultimate Private Investigator. Originally she was called the Ultimate Detective, but wanted to sound more independent and started to call herself the SHSL Private Investigator. Asami starts out as the protagonist of the story and quickly befriends Izumi Murakami and Sachie Mori at the beginning of the killing game. She says that all of their talents together can help save everyone from the killing game.

Asami is a very upbeat and positive person. She tends to try and see the best in others when she can. This does not negatively effect her detective work, though. She gives off a rather aloof personality that makes the suspects she's investigating underestimate her. One thing that she absolutely hates is waking up early and can often be found sleeping in. She also has a strong dislike for chores and it looks as if she's never had her jacket ironed out.

In the first chapter, Asami spends a lot of time trying to boost the classes confidence in her, Izumi and Sachie. She wants them to believe that the trio will solve all the mysteries and keep everyone safe from the killing game. She is determined to make sure every single student makes it out alive. Towards the end of the chapter, she discovers a mysterious figure slide a note under another student, Riku Kenzo's door. After reading it's contents and theorizing that he might be in trouble, she goes to the location in the note to try and protect him. She waits until around 15 minutes after the time the note said, and decides that neither party is actually coming. Before she can leave someone appears behind her and kills her, making her the first victim of the killing game.
