Description
A typical example of an East Coast Woodland Native allied to the French during the French and Indian War. These warriors would be highly decorated to show their wealth and success in battle. Fierce face paint or war paint would be applied to the face and neck, these paints had various meanings depending on color and pattern, but were mostly for intimidation along with their war cry. They often wore frontier clothing such as the loose-fitting hunting frock. Their long gun, the "Fusil de Chasse" was a popular flintlock trade gun designed to be light and simpler to use compared to the 'Long Land Pattern Brown Bess' and the 'Charlottesville' military muskets of the time making them ideal for the wilderness setting, this along with other gear would be purchased from colonist traders or looted from the dead or injured after a battle.Gouache on watercolor paper.
