www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ7fw0…Light Switch decided to make a sculpture of the CTC island! The designs appear much more intricate in the illustration than they would really appear, so keep that in mind. LOL
Light Switch used very basic carving tools, like chisels for small detail and a pick axe for breaking off large amounts of stone.
--- Terrain Landmarks ---
The overall ground of the sculpture was carved out of a very large chunk of sandstone. Using a pickaxe Light Switch managed to break off a decent amount of the sandstone in order to create a ground-like base for the overall sculpture, Light Switch chiselled around certain parts of the landscape, creating a volcano structure in the middle of the ground and a mountain and cliff protruding out on the very side of the sculpture. Light Switch painted the ground primarily green, using a tan colour for the other rims of the sculpture, to represent sand. On the western side of the sculpture Light Switch painted a patch of the ground blue, to represent a lake. This same shade of blue would then be used to paint the entire base of the sculpture that was given to Light Switch by Gem Rod.
Using the remaining sandstone, Light Switch carved and painted dozens of small cone shapes which would be glued onto the base structure and would function as trees. He would use most of these on the western zone of the sculpture as to represent the CTC island's forest.
The actual base of the sculpture was then painted to look like the seabed, Light Switch has demonstrated artistic abilities in the past, using these abilities he was able to paint coral, rocks and foliage. Light Switch also decided to paint the bags that were used in CTC 5, which he himself had to dive into the water to collect.
--- Challenge Landmarks ---
(CTC) Storage Shed - The storage shed is frequently used by the contestants to gather supplies such as weapons, arts and crafts and even old challenge entries. The base of the building was sculpted out of a small chunk of stone, the roof was sculpted separately and glued on. The building was painted using a thin brush and various colours to make the building appear as accurate as possible.
(CTC) The Abandoned Mineshaft - Discovered by Gem Rod at the beginning of CTC 1. The Mineshaft was used during a challenge in which the contestants had to loot the mines. All Light Switch did to include this was sculpt a small opening on the side of the cliff. The hole is just basically an arch way shape, the arch was glued onto the cliff in order to give the appearance that there is a hole in the side of the cliff. The outside of the entrance was painted the same colour as the cliff and beach, and the inside of the cliff was painted a darker colour to imply that the hole goes deeper than it really does.
(CTC 5) The Fist Statue - This statue was built in CTC 5 by Light Switch at the final five, the statue was meant to represent the five remaining contestants, as well as how fierce the competition was at the time. The fist was sculpted with much less intricacy than its larger, older couterpart. Instead of being sculpted out of many different rocks like the original, it was just sculpted out of one slab of stone, and the the different colours were just created using paint.
(CTC 2) The Hamster Balls - Used in CTC 2 during a challenge in which the contestants had to race down an obstacle-ridden hill. The Hamster Balls were made by chipping out a very small ball out of stone, they were then painted blue and given slightly lighter dots of paint on the top to resemble a shine.
(CTC) A Goal - Used frequently in challenges to signify the goal. The goal post was created using some black straws and a piece of paper with a goal flag drawn on it. There are two thin holes piercing the ground of the sculpture, created using a drill, allowing the straws to sink into the sculpture and stand upright. The flag is then glued to the two straws.
(CTC 3) The Fountain - Created by Easter Egg, this fountain was the only one built during the challenge and therefore won. A small fine detail carving chisel was used in order to get the immense detail of the fountain, such as the complicated shapes of the Atoms. Once again paint was used as colouring.
(CTC 2) The Laser Tag Arena - The laser tag challenge has been included in many seasons since its introduction in CTC 2. The laser tag challenge is described as being a maze-like bulding with multiple floors. This sculpture was entirely carved out of stone and painted, the core building was made out of one sculpture and the sign was carved individually and glued to the front.
(CTC 6) The Snowy Hill and the Snowman - The snowy hill was featured in the 2nd challenge of CTC 6, the contestants had to build their own sleds and race down the hill. The snow from this hill was also later used for the contestants to build their own snowmen. The hill was was carved as part of the initial ground piece, the snowman was carved later on using finer detail carving tools and then painted.
(CTC 2) The Gorge - The gorge was featured in CTC 2, the contestants had to find a way to cross it during a challenge. The gorge was simply carved out of the ground piece using carving tools, the inside of the gorge was painted brown to simulate the appearance of rocks beneath the surface.
(CTC 3) The Active Volcano - The volcano was featured in CTC 3 when the contestants had to climb it during a challenge in order to collect lava from inside of it. The volcano was simple part of the original ground piece sculpture, it was sculpted hollow so that it could later be filled. The outside of the volcano was painted and fine tuned with a smaller chisel as to give it a more rocky and natural appearance. The volcano itself is filled with orangeade, as to make it look like bubbling lava within the volcano.
(CTC) The Docks - The docks are used for boats to arrive on and leave the CTC island. The dock was carved from real wood. Using a log Light Switch carved out actual small planks, and used glue to fasten them together, he then used some twigs as the two logs holding up the dock.
(CTC) The Elimination Area - This scary old place has been used many times in every season, it's where the contestants will go to vote another player off. The elimination area is also made out of wood, Light Switch just cut up some sticks and glued them down to the sculpture, the actual fire is just a chiselled piece of rock painted orange and glued to the top of a pile of sticks.
(CTC 4) Angry Birds - Although not actually called this. Ribbon's own challenge created during CTC 4 was the spark of controversy when Painty became very upset over losing to a challenge so similar to the popular Angry Birds series. This sculpture was very difficult to create as it required several very small holes to be made through the design, although due to the blocky nature of the structure, it made carving it slightly less of a pain.
(CTC) Atom's Laboratory - Atom's lab is where the notorious Atom would store various devices and contraptions, full to the brim of very unique supplies and substances, it has been featured in many challenges since its debut. Atom's Laboratory is a glass building, and thus was hard to replicate through stone, similarly to the hamster balls, Light Switch just painted the shines on to the structure as a substitute for actually having to find and use real glass. The actual base shape of the structure is just a simple cylinder shape with a dome on top.
(CTC 5) Bongo's Treehouse - In CTC 5 the contestants were tasked with building a treehouse that properly reflects them, Bongo built a treehouse decorated with musical symbols and won the challenge through this. Light Switch once again used wood for the very base of this structure. With a stick holding up the actual stone sculpture. The Stick is glued straight down to the ground and is just strong enough to hold up the stone carved house. The house itself is just a basic cube shape with the roof glued on top, the rest of the details were drawn with marker or painted.
--- The Board Game ---
To add an extra bit of flair to his sculpture, Light Switch decided to use his remaining time to put together a CTC themed board game. The rules of the game are simple, it is a 6 player game and the first player to get their piece from the finish line at the dock around the island and to the finish line.
The 6 playing pieces are the 6 5th placers from the CTC seasons. The players will roll a 6 sided dice at the beginning of the game to decide the order in which they will have turns. The higher the roll the sooner you will go. After this the players will roll the dice and travel across the board how many spaces they roll.
After everybody has had a turn, the players in the game will all take a card which has a CTC related question on it, it could be about statistics, challenge facts, or even just miscellanious trivia about the contestants, they are asked questions in turn order and if they answer the question correctly, they will be given a reward in the next turn, which will be specified on the card. The contestants are allowed to choose the difficulty of the question they are asked, but the more difficult the question, the greater the reward will be in the following turn.
Different spaces have different consequences, so the players should be mindful of where they land on the board. Random events can happen that could either benefit the player or punish them.
In the end the game will continue like this until a player reaches the finish, in which case they are declared the winner.
