While still behind on my own game project, I've been practicing with sketches with Splatoon character to improve my skills in artwork in general. After MANY thrown out and scrapped papers, I think I have come up to a level I'm honestly happy with in a way. Granted, I don't have the equipment to bring them out digitally yet, but I thought I'd share a scan of my paper sketch of their faces.

While I was just going to draw out Splatoon characters for practice, they ended up turning into characters on their own. I blame my mind for always going ahead of what I can do. >->
In anycase, I don't know where they might go from here, but I did end up coming up with a small story to each of them.

Team VIOLE(n)T Beatz - A newbie team in the making still working to register for Turf Wars. While their teamwork still needs some tuning, they each have a motivation that keeps them going forward. Because they are still in training, they haven't yet gone into getting themselves proper gear yet.(Yes, that's my excuse)

Haru -Giant Squid Hybrid - Roller user - Formerly part of a street gang, he fell into the wrong crowd early in his years. That is until his sister, Asami, ended up offering him to start a team for Turf Wars. Despite his temper at times, his sister is able to keep him in check. But due to reason he doesn't like to talk about, he holds a strong dislike for Octolings.
Emma - Inkling/Shark Hybrid - Dualies user - An energetic girl who's been a big fan of Turf Wars ever since she was little. Her only real signs of her shark genes are her teeth(which she tends to not show much) and a fin on the back of her head(hidden by her tied back hair).
Beats - Octoling - Charger user - A quiet and reclusive Octoling that was one of the few survivors from the Test Facility Agent 8 destroyed. He never intended to join a team, but an odd encounter with with Emma one day resulted in him literally being dragged to the interview.
Asami - Giant Squid Hybrid - Brella user - Team leader and older sister to Haru. By far, the most level headed in the team and adept in computers. Despite being half Giant Squid, she managed to not get single height gene. Resulting in her being even shorter then her 'little' brother. A fact that he all to well enjoys pointing out even if it's always followed by her punching him in the face.

As I improve on my own drawing set up, I plan to expand on them even more as a side project separate from my game. Have even been thinking of making them a Tumblr for their story.
