The mouth of the Colombia River is one of the most dangerous waterways in America. Towering cliffs, roving bars, uncertain weather, and an unabashed determination for those who travel it daily make life off the coast of Oregon and Washington at the best of times a risky endeavor. On the Washington side, there is this lighthouse overlooking the coast. Just on the other side of this is a very small shack sporting the largest binoculars you've ever seen. Its a post for the US Coast Guard. They watch for boats in distress and make reports of rip tides and other dangerous hazards. It is a small hike to get up to this point, but it is a very awe inspiring view.
