A harsh truth, but I've seen too many people get disappointed and stressed when they engage in a disagreement with someone who avoids the nature of reality at all costs. Please be reassured that you don't have to convince them of anything, and as long as you know where you stand then nothing they think about you matters.ΒRelated content

I was talking to an atheist, and their generalization got way out of hand. They pointed out that they believe Christians [the topic of our discussion] do nothing for the good of others and only think about doing good for themselves and the church, which is not true. Our church and many churches around is give food and shelter to the homeless and poor, and have fundraisers so we can build wells and homes in Africa.Β There are many more generalizations like that that are not true.
And, when we show them something that has science backing it up, they say something about how it is false and the researcher should understand that. They heed no attention to the facts that oppose the idea, as well. Most also take the words in the Christian Bible out of context.
Sorry for disturbing you like that. And please do not reply if you with to argue about it.

1) You are talking to an atheist right now, and I can tell you that most of us are not like that. Do we think, nay, know that churches and religion do more harm than good? Yes.
2) I will argue if I damn well want to.

Bigoted? Not so much. Rude sometimes? Maybe, but it's usually quite justified. Don't lump everyone in the group in the same bad boat just because of a few flakes...
