It really looks like Jhonen drew it!
This drawing somehow suggests to me that he's just seen the horrible stuff that's been done with them, and he's reminding us that no, they are NOT our creations to twist and warp as we see fit.
Every time I see Dib slashed with Zim or Nny slashed with ANYBODY I want to apologize to him personally.
