this was done for a friend, the kind that does a little extra to make you feel special. :]this character was my choice. Riley -an original character, i've drawn a couple times before.

well, i wanted the character to seem unassuming. the mystery of the blade is sort of the manifestation of her inner abilities, strivings. having a large blade, is a huge burden- an analogy of the will of heart. i also like it becuase its atypical - you usually find armor-clad burly fellows wielding huge blades.

^^ now there is something I can agree with. A Blade isn't just a weapon but the symbol of the person who wields it. I wish more people thought like you.

completely unrealistic weaponry, but that's ok. it's fiction anyways.
big swords are fun, but I just can't help but think about how hard it would be to swing in reality.

cloud strife syndrome, lol. yeah, i was thinking of the lower density higher integrity metal-type thing also. but thinking again, in a far more fetched scenario, it could be electro-mag resonating gloves could be her trick. yeah, i try to make it look cool first, then explain the technicalities later. open to interpretation of course.

Well, consider that the picture hints at a multitude of time periods. It doesn't HAVE to be your traditional steel sword--it could be made of a much lighter material from a future time period designed to be lethal at exactly that size.
Think without the box, eh?

it still woudn't have to be that big. if it's lighter, why would you make it bigger? just make it sharper.
sometimes the box is your friend to comprehend reality, and sometimes it needs to be put through the quantum paper shredder. take your pick.
