"Everywhere I look, I'm surrounded by extraordinary people doing extraordinary things. Some are naturally gifted, others acquired their gifts by hard-work, and then there's those select few like me who were granted by some fluke or cruel twist of fate. Sure, my grades are solid but I don't possess the social skills and confidence in myself to brighten a room by just being me. My gift is a cruel joke that extenuates my imperfections and reminds me of how unremarkable I am without it. Is it too much to ask to be special without a magic potion, a divine makeover, or gamma radiation enhanced blood transfusion?"

Ximena Vega buried her face between her legs and sobs silently as she sits alone between the stacks of bookshelves in the campus library. No one ever came up to this section of the library, so she was safe to bare her soul like this. She would remain like this for a few minutes, wipe her tears, and put on fake a smile back to her dormitory like she always did, leaving no one ever the wiser of the inner turmoil that this young woman bottled up inside.
