Body:
Branchies are a kind of nature monster, related to Ents in many ways. Although, before being sealed underground Ents and Branchies were indistinguishable from each other. Branchies could only be identified by their shrill shrieking they would use to ward off dangers that would enter the forests they inhabited. After living underground for many, many generations the Branchies have evolved to be much different from their fellow tree monsters. They are much shorter now, being around 7 to 8 feet tall on average. Their humanoid traits are much more exaggerated now, forming very defined arms, legs, and even hands. They have evolved to be much more mobile due to the constant need to migrate in the early years underground. But note that a Branchie is only speedy in comparison to other tree monsters. Their feet are mostly comprised of roots that they can dig into the ground for stability or for accessing nutrients from the earth. They have one large root at their back, very much like a tail, used much for the same purposes as their feet along with swatting away unwanted visitors. Their branches and foliage mainly cluster behind their face, around their head, and on their wrists. Their bark is hard to the touch but surprisingly flexible. The Branchie’s bodies have many knot patterns on their bark. Their joints always have a knot on them, but the pattern of the knots on their torsos can vary drastically.

Colors/Foliage:
Branchies have evolved to emulate a myriad of different tree breeds. They can be many different colors, usually following the theme of the breed of tree they are. Natural pigments and earthy tones are very common. Super bright or neon colors have never been seen on Branchie. The foliage on Brachies is also dependent on what breed of tree they are emulating. They can have any kind of tree leaf, blossom, or a combination of the two. Some Branchies do not have any foliage and only have branches. Others may not have braches and only leaves.

Genders:
Branchies are both male and female, much like other plants. They reproduce through cross-pollination and seeding. For the most part they use names rather than pronouns. Most other monsters view them as motherly or feminine creatures. The Branchies do not mind being referred to in this way.

Aging

Branchie saplings begin as seeds planted in the ground by adult Branchies. They remain in the earth for many many years absorbing the nutrients and magic from the earth. Once they are ready to come out of the ground they will be about halfway through their growth. They will have large sacks of nutrients on their joints and torso to help them grow into adults. As they age the nutrient sacks will shrink until completely empty, leaving the knot patterns in the bark. The sapling’s back root will be very wild looking at first before refining its self as it grows into the tail shape the adults have.

Naming

Branchies are usually named something relating to the breed of tree they are emulating. Being named after seasons or other plants is also popular. Branchie saplings usually name themselves. One of the first things they say when emerging from the ground is their chosen name.

Other Info

They delight in being able to show off their colorful branches and foliage to please the monsters around them. Their favorite places to stay or sleep are in planter boxes and garden groves. When asleep they root themselves down with their feet and tail and lift their arms up to mimic actual trees. They have an affinity for green or cyan magic. Mostly using them for growing plants and crops for the monsters in New Home. Branchies still have the ability to shriek so loudly they can be heard all throughout the underground. They choose not to in order to not be a bother to other monsters. However, they will use this ability in order to warn of incoming dangers as ordered to do so by the King or those under his direct orders.
