Description
Man this made me CRY while I drew it. So these are my characters Fathom (the dead one) and Dragon when Fathom dies from his injuries. They are both abysswings even tho it might be hard to tell since they are both only the silhouettes. If you wanna know the backstory it’ll be down below but I just wanted to show this off lolAlso this took place before Dragon met Monster so his name is still Ventral. (He meets Monster and Monster just calls him Dragon so he changes his name to that)
Warning: really sad and a dragon dies
“Ventral come here I caught us some food!” Ventral’s brother flashed to him. He was there in a second, looking up hopefully at his brother for some food. They had lived together for Ventral’s entire life. When he thought of the face of his father the only one that appeared was his big brother’s scarred and kind face. His name was Fathom, a common name for any abysswing at this point. And Ventral loved Fathom. “Can I have some?” Ventral flashed and Fathom laughed. “Of course! Dig in kiddo!”
Ventral didn’t know it but this would be the last day he spent with his brother.
They were swimming close to the edge of the trench, looking for more prey to try and sell. That was how his brother made money, hunting for those who were too lazy to do it themselves. Ventral always hated the abysswings that Fathom worked for. They barely got to keep anything they hunted. Fathom said that’s why he was so small but Ventral just thought it was because he was handsome. Suddenly before Ventral could even flash anything, a massive shark came out from underneath them, scooping Fathom up into his jaws. Fathom was still slightly bigger than the shark but Ventral was barely as big as it.
“GET OUT OF HERE” Fathom flashed desperately at Ventral. Of course he would leave Fathom behind. He quickly swam and plunged his open teeth into the side of the shark, holding on as tight as he could. Blood was mixing into the water, bad news for dragons who wanted sharks to stay away. “VENTRAL” Fathom flashed again. The shark seemed to be stuck in Fathom’s body, only able to bite down and shake but unable to retaliate to Ventral’s attacks. Ventral got a few more chunks out of the shark before it finally let go and swam away, leaving a trail of blood behind it. Ventral swam down to the sea floor with Fathom, trying to get him back to Day City as quickly as he could. Once they got to the outskirts of the city he rested Fathom against a building as he looked horrified at the wounds.
“Ventral I told you to go.” Fathom flashed weakly. “YOU THINK IM LEAVING YOU BEHIND? YOU COULD HAVE-“ he didn’t finish flashing. He looked at his brother and the realization hit. No, he knew that his brother was still going to die. The blood was starting to cloud his eyes in the water as he looked desperately at his brother.
“You can’t leave me Fathom...” Ventral dimly flashed.
“I think I don’t really have a choice” Fathom flashed with a sad smile. He could barely look at him. He didn’t want to see his brother hurt and bleeding. “Look at me Ventral” Fathom flashed. He didn’t turn to face him. “Ventral. Look at me” Fathom insisted again. Ventral looked at him, his entire face filled with heartbreak. “Its going to be alright. Stay safe, don’t get into trouble. I love you kid” he flashed quickly. Ventral didn’t want to look at him. He didn’t want to be there when Fathom took his last raspy inhales. He turned and swam away. Fathom didn’t want to die alone. He kept flashing his lights to bring Ventral back but it was too late. His brother had left him. And he was alone. His last inhales were desperately calling out for his brother or for help. But nothing came. Ventral didn’t know it but that would be the biggest regret of his life.
