Description
In Effie's POVI sat at the mahogany table, tapping my fingernails against the wood. Where was he already? It was past midnight and we had to get up early tomorrow morning to escort Katniss and Peeta to their venues. I glanced up at the clock once more, seeing it had now gone past 1am, this would not do. I sighed to myself and got up, getting ready to go out into the District and hunt for Haymitch. I pulled on my fur coat, wrapping it tightly around me, when there was a groan as the train doors opened and a dark figure collapsed on the floor. I bit my lip, hoping it was Haymitch and not some drunk stranger. I slowly went over to the body, leaning down to see the man's face better, the moonlight was shining on Haymitch's face and he appeared to be passed out. I sighed, looking at the time again, Peeta and Katniss were sure to be asleep and so were the avoxes. I sighed, standing back up and pushing Haymitch on his back with my foot, I covered my mouth, which twitched down into a frown, seeing vomit and blood covering Haymitch's shirt. What had he gotten himself into this time? I took a deep breath through my mouth, the smell of liquor and vomit making my nose burn, I would have to stay calm so as not to vomit myself, he really was a disgusting man. I sighed and put my hand to my forehead, closing my eyes. How was I supposed to get him to his room... and in the bath... I certainly couldn't leave him in that state, it was unhygenic. I looked down at him again, right now only feeling loathing for this man, how could he do this to me? He was going to ruin my schedule in the morning with his stupid hangover. I sighed again, getting a tissue out of the breastpocket in my pyjama shirt, holding it in my hand, if I was touching Haymitch I didn't want to get dirt on me, I wrapped my hand around his and gave a tug, seeing if he would wake up, he didn't. I sighed and dug my heels into the ground, trying my best to drag Haymitch out of the room, but it was no use, he was a dead weight right now, I sighed and dropped his hand, disposing of the tissue and sitting down at a chair, waiting for him to wake up, or waiting to think of an idea to get him to his room.
After about fifteen minutes of thinking and Haymitch still not waking up, I sigh and make my way to the train's kitchen, getting a glass of ice cold water, I slowly make my way back to Haymitch and I frown, standing over him with my hand on my hip, glass in the other hand, I don't know if this is such a good idea, I sighed again, pursing my lips, trying to think. Well, I had to get him to his bedroom and I certainly couldn't drag him there, so he had to wake up somehow. I sighed again and tipped my hand, the water spilling over Haymitch's face which caused him to jump awake with a groan, "Wha--"
"Haymitch, get up.. you need to get cleaned up." I said with a scowl.
"Princess? What are you doing up at this time in the morning?" He sat up slowly, holding his head.
I grit my teeth and close my eyes, "I was waiting for you to come back, we have a schedule tomorrow and you kno--"
Haymitch groaned, "You're giving me a headache, no one cares about your schedule, Princess."
"I care about my schedule!" I lost my cool with him then, I was tired and I needed to get up tomorrow and he was grating on my last nerve, I said in a now calm, collected voice, "Now please, just get up and go to your room and wash." I gave him a look so he knew not to mess around this time.
He groaned, "Fine, whatever you want Princess." He got up slowly, clinging to one of the chairs to hold himself up, after a while he slowly let go and he fell right back down.
I sighed and held my hand out, mumbling, "I'll help you to your room."
He looked slightly amused that one, I was helping him, and two, that I was annoyed with him, he grabbed my hand though and with my help, pulled himself up.
I looked at him, then sighed and hesitantly wrapped one of my arms around his shoulder, the other holding on to his waist to keep him steady.
Haymitch smirked down at me, drawling out, "Knew you always had a thing for me Princess."
I glared and dug my nails into his waist, causing him to let out a grunt of pain and we slowly made our way to his room.
When we finally got to this room, Haymitch collapsed on the bed, seemingly ready to go to sleep but I cleared my throat, "You are not going to sleep in that state of your's, now come on." I didn't wait for his response, I just pulled him up, which was a lot of effort, and I guided him into the bathroom and into the bath. I looked around the room, hoping there were some gloves in here so I wouldn't have to touch his shirt with my bare hands, it was filthy. I looked in a cabinet and finally found some, I pulled them on, the gloves making a 'snap' as I put them on, that echoed in the quiet bathroom. I looked at Haymitch again who was slumped down, I then noticed a bruise on his cheek and a few cuts and I sighed, going over to him and slowly taking his shirt off and throwing it into the washing basket along with his pants. With a blush on my cheeks, I hesitated at his underwear, before I just stood up straight and put the water on, he could wash that part himself while I was out of the room, I turned the water off when it came up to his chest and I slowly started to clean the blood, vomit and dirt off of him, when I heard a quiet noise, I stopped moving and noticed that it was coming from Haymitch, he seemed to be.. purring, almost. I blushed more, but my make up hid it for the most part and just continued to wash him.
"You're really good at this Princess, feels nice." He said contently with a small, but drunk, smile on his face.
I didn't know whether it was the liquor getting to him, or if it was well hidden mockery, but I decided just to ignore him like I usually did. I got his right hand and started getting the dirt out of his nails.
"..Princess?"
I sighed, wishing he would stop calling me that, "What, Haymitch?"
"You're nice, you know that right?"
I stayed silent this time, wondering what that could possibly mean, what was nice about me? My looks, my personality, my.. oh, Haymitch was so confusing sometimes, especially when he was a drunken idiot. I just kept washing his nails, then swapping to the other hand and doing the same, finally speaking up, "Well.. thank you." I then heard snoring and I looked up from his hands to see he had fallen asleep and I sighed, putting some shampoo in my hands and washing his hair.
"Mmmn.. Effie."
I blushed, he was still sleeping, he wasn't dreaming of me was he? I frowned slightly, feeling a fluttering in my stomach and wondering what that could be, I ignored it for the meanwhile, and continued to wash his hair.
"So... beautiful."
I wonder who he was talking about that time. It couldn't be me, he always mocked my looks, well with my make up and wig on and he had never seen me without it on. I rinsed out his hair and tried to shake him awake, but he just let out a groan.. of pleasure? I wasn't quite sure.
"Effie." He said breathily.
I blushed more and shook him harder, "Haymitch wake up, you need to wash your.. you know." I glanced down and my mouth opened wide seeing Haymitch was.. excited, shall we say? I gasped and stumbled back, he has just been saying my name in his sleep and now this? I groaned and closed my eyes, this was not happening, why me?. I took a deep breath, calming myself, "Haymitch wake up!"
He woke up with a snort and he winced at the sudden light, "Ugh, what Princess? I was having a nice dream.."
"I can tell." I hissed out. "Now if you don't mind, can you finish cleaning yourself."
"Heh, sure, clean myself." He smirked slightly up at me.
I blushed heavily, worrying that it might show through my make up and I pulled the gloves off, throwing them away and hurrying out the room, slamming the door shut and I sat on the bed, tapping my foot and waiting for him to finish up so I could tend to his wounds.
After what seemed a very long time, Haymitch came out from the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist and I couldn't help but stare at his broad chest and muscular shoulders.
"Got a nice view there princess?"
I blushed and looked down at my feet, "I was just.. checking for injuries." I could tell he was smirking at me.
"Whatever makes you feel better."
I sighed and stood up, making him sit down on the bed and I retrieved the first aid kit in his room and started to bandage his cuts, "What did you do this time?"
"I was drunk, how am I supposed to know?" He said staring at my chest.
I sighed and just ignored him, checking him over before placing the kit back and handing him his pyjama's and turning around, "Get dressed."
He chuckled, "Don't know why you turned around, I know you want to look~"
I heard his towel fall to the floor and the sound of him pulling his clothes on, "Are you done yet?"
"Yes."
I turned around slowly, making sure he was, before leaning down and getting his towel, folding it neatly and putting it on a chair. "Well.. good night." I went to leave before I felt his rough hand grab mine.
"Wait Princess, I wanna give you something for being so nice to me."
"Haymitch, I want to g--" I squeaked when he spun me around and pressed me against the wall, smashing his lips against mine, but oddly, I kissed him back. I don't know what came over me, but it felt.. right. But then I felt Haymitch's hand slowly start to creep it's way up my shirt and I pushed him away, my breathing a little heavier than usual. "Goodnight Haymitch." I quickly made my way out the room, shutting the door.
Haymitch chuckles, "Love you too Princess." He turned the light off and made his way to bed.
I slumped against the door, touching my lips, before slowly making my way to my room, I think I was in love with Haymitch Abernathy. What a strange night this had been.
