So, despite my long association with these silly ponies, I am not an active convention goer, and up until last week, had only managed to briefly stop into one convention way back in like, 2011 I think. For a couple of hours. However, after some great interactions with some folks on the interweb, I was finally convinced to go down and visit HarmonyCon in Dallas, meet some folks face to face, shake hands, sing songs, all of that jazz. It was an absolute blast, and I had a great time meeting these folks.
In an exciting turn of events, at close to midnight on Friday, while we were all severely underdressed for it, and hanging out at the concert, the building was suddenly evacuated due to a bomb and hostage hoax, and we got to spend a little while shivering in near freezing weather before we were able to move to an adjacent hotel lobby until we got the all clear at nearly 3am. It was, frankly, a hoot, and certainly made the whole event more memorable and interesting. I would not have traded it for the alternative, it was too good of a story. Obviously, by the following morning, HarmonyCon vendors had "SWATCon" paraphernalia for sale, and it was all very amusing. I hope we get to do it again next year.
Anyway, I had a little time this week to make some figurines for some of the great people I was able to spend time with, and they obviously had to be SWAT ponies. I won't defend their quality; they were made in a time crunch at a rate of about 90 minutes each from start to finish, but I don't feel like sticking them in my scrap folder, so here they are. These guys are pretty tiny, maybe 1.75 inches in height for the base stance models, and made in stained walnut.
