I don’t normally do collections. Yet given that soaring food prices are now forcing some people to steal food to feed their families, “grocery prices in Canada are increasing at the fastest rate seen in 40 years” (per a Jan. 16, 2023, report by Global News), and how the gap between Canada’s rich and poor is widening at a record pace (per a July 4, 2023, report by Bloomberg), I found myself thinking of a similar time in 1775 when soaring food prices finally pushed people too far.

I don’t know whether I’ve captured anything of the public mood about the subject in this collection, though I suspect I may have done so in at least a few of the works.
