Images need to "pop" with bold, contrasting colors. That's what they say (whoever they are), and I get that it comes from the nature of small screens, where images need to leap out from the daily snowstorm of online images and transient attention to effectively punch someone in the face. Yet when you walk past the commercial thinking behind all that, the downside would seem to be that messages and subtleties can easily become lost, meaning you can't really drop deeply into an image when it's leaping so aggressively outward to get you. So once again in this new piece called Unyielding Light, I turn my attention to low contrasts, subtle texturing, and subdued hues to effectively offer depth and invite people to turn their attention away from the clock.
