Totally know what you mean, none of my art turns out exactly how I want it too, but I'm just glad people seem to like it.

It takes time to happen .Most probably years of practice.Everything that worths requires patience.Patience isnt exactly my strongest point but with time i am getting better at it!
Dont count too much on ppl's opinion about your art. What's more important is how you feel about it.there's no one better qualified than yourself to tell if you need to improve or not and if so in which ways. You will be the best judge of yourself, and the most cruel one i am afraid..

Well I suppose the first thing I would say is that I was quite right about my thoughts of this photo and your talents. Christina this is amazing, beautiful, and maybe not perfect in your eyes, but perfect in mine. Your lines and care have done her great justice, and in my opinion this sets you apart from most portrait artists in that you can take and image and craft it beautifully in your style and really make that image yours. I am so glad you did this piece and I want you to know I think you did just a great job with it.

Thank you very much Paul for the thoughtful comment!
I see your point concerning her lips,i totally understand it.
But what my brains sets as a priority,my body completely ignores apparently, and my hands do their thing one way or another.
A time will come where my head will rule over my artistic (exaggerating) addictions, but i am still waiting for this day to come my friend...

o i totally understand u. I was just talking BOUT THIS with a student of mine yesterday i was explaining how i often have a plan but some times i go off and do other things until i can rap my mind around the fact that i'm not fallowing it. LOL then of course i have to go back and fix what i knew was wrong in the first place but for some reason i could not stop my self. i think its the joy of painting it over takes us and we just let go this can at times be a good thing but more often then not its not productive.

i get it.
Its a funny thing to set a schedule for one of your pieces and you see it turning to something you didnt expect, but isnt it wonderful at the same time?Lose yourself in it?
i have no idea if i ever manage to make strict rules for my art,but even if i dont i wouldnt care less. Its the one thing that makes me happy beyond words,it makes me whole you know?
enough rules we have in life already,we dont need more...

thank you i am definitely a bit mad LOL i teach art to painters on line i have a discussion forum. my primary goal is not to teach people how to paint like i do but to give them the tools to go off and be the kind of artist they can be. my primary tool is to teach them how to be disciplined if they can learn that then it can apply to almost every aspect of there lives not just art. my second goal and this is vary hard to teach is the skill of observation if you can see it perceive it then threw practice you will eventually be able to paint it at least that's the ideal. i have been blessed to have been born with a natural ability to dissect seen's and to be able to brake things down in to their component parts i always thought this was something every one could do it was not until i started teaching that i found this to be a difficult skill for some. its my single biggest frustration. how do you get people to understand that much of art is about looking at things from various focuses like from the over all macro down to the micro and to learn to switch back and forth from one aspect back not spending to much time in any one place to avoid looking perspective. unless you have this ability naturally its hard to learn not impossible but i think its is something that is wired in to our brains. hope you don't mind that change of subject but i love to talk about process stuff. much of what i do teaching is about process that is part of that inner voice learning to listen to it and to Incorporated our instincts in to what drives us is the key to personal expression threw art. i think you are highly disciplined too people who do realism have to have this or it all falls apart. i was looking at your portfolio i can see how you have improved over time vary cool to see it shows that you are focused and working towards a goal.

What you are trying to achieve is almost impossible...
Up to a point,to try and teach discipline to future painters is doable.Even teaching them the art of observation (which personally i believe its much harder to learn than discipline) mostly because it requires an holistic view of...things.
I trust you though.I think you have the patience and the ability to pass the necessary messages to your students. That is an admirable thing by itself.I doubt theres a gray zone with them and you, they either love you or hate you!
Please by all means you can change the topic anytime.I did enjoyed this conversation beyond words and if theres one single thing i have learn to appreciate in my life thats intelligence.Somehow you dont seem ignorant, callow or skilless at all!
As for the discipline you believe you see in me its worthless without the necessary patience. This is MY single biggest frustration .I cant wait Paul..I want it all and i want it now.

patients Grasshopper is a hallmark of maturity! i don't know how old you are but it will come you may never be a zen master but you can and will improve over time just be kind to your self. Patients shows in ones work so if you commit to being the best then you have to commit to being patient. the most important thing is that you live each day hour and moment to the fullest and keep your focus on the goal while maintaining your life you only get one chance to live it. it goes by fast spend it well

hehe thank you for making me feel like 6 y old unleashed in the candy store!!
I am under Peter Pan Syndrome anyway i will grow up when i decide to.Now obviously that was a joke,i dont know you at all so i dunno either if you have a solid sense of humor!
I do know how to wait when i must (but only when i MUST i am afraid) i am aware this life is too short, reminds me of the samples the beauty stores give away, always too little to leave us satisfied enough or able to have a opinion about the product.
To live each day and hour with passion is what i do anyway,i am like the candles that burn with a very bright light and disappear very fast.
But since i am still walking on earth, there are plenty of interesting things that can work as a challenge and make my days seem more like fun than duty

i had a big Breastfed i went out with my X and his BF. he (X Wesley) was leaving for Reno today they are geographically braking up if that makes sens and my X and i are still financially entangled after 20 years its hard to let go hes my best friend hes BF is not that crazy about me being around but that is not my problem. sure on the book when i finish it but don't hold your breath i'm only on page 370 and i have a lot of edits to do i write stream of conciseness style then i have to go back and make it work then add the stylistic stuff that makes it read true to place and time. though i think i did a pretty good job on that. ok back to painting i have to take brakes or my back gets sore this painting is siting kind of low on my easel. i get up and down a thousand times i like to look at it from about 10ft away so i can keep my perspective. im working on the central focal today its making me weep with joy! all take a picture in a few mints and upload it you can take a look if you want.
