Description My FB page: [link]

"Virgo is the sixth astrological sign in the Zodiac. It spans the 150-180th degree of the zodiac, between 152.75 and 180 degree of celestial longitude, which the Tropical zodiac the Sun transits this area on average between August 23 to September 22 each year.
The constellation of Virgo is representative of many identities, all related to maidens, purity and fertility. She was originally associated to Dike, also known as Justice, daughter of Zeus and Themis, who was once the Mistress of All-Divine Order and Law prior to the Olympians. Dike initially lived among mankind but withdrew when they no longer upheld justice.

In Greek mythology, similarly, Persephone, daughter of Zeus and Demeter, had been abducted and taken to the underworld by Hades. In revenge her mother ruined the harvests, the earth became infertile and the people were starving. Zeus was forced to issue a decree stating that Persephone should spend only a short time each year in the underworld, and when she was released Demeter permitted Nature to resume its natural course."

This is my second addition to the Zodiac Signs while the first one was Leo
In time i will complete them all!

This piece is dedicated to Kev an awesome Virgo with an amazing gallery!

I used:
Many watercolor and acrylic washes
Prismacolor premier pencils
Albrecht Durer faber castell watercolor pencils (with and without water)
On canvas board size 24cm x 30cm

I have uploaded the original file in case you want to check on the full amount of details. Also if you are interested in the wips you can find them here [link]
This is a photo i took in the morning sunlight (i guess thats why it looks bright and warm) and laters i will varnish it to make all colors pop out properly.

And here I got up at 5:00 AM and have been painting solidly until just now when I took out my bike for some exercise. I come back and I see this and look at my work and think that I am moving in milometers, while you move in kilometers in the same amount of time. This is a terrific blending of all of the media you used to make her (you really are able to transcend the different media so well). The washes are so wonderfully done, I love the little border skirmishes that are happening between them. Everything is smooth where it needs to be, and rough where it doesn't. The way you have done the background colours on the left is quite magical, and just finishes this off perfectly.

You must have done loads in so many hours.. and i bet you have a sore back now,you need a good massage...well i guess the bike will do since i wasnt there...
Sweetheart this isnt true. You have reached where you meant to reach already and look at me...still struggling here.Theres so much i still need to do..
I said i was gonna keep the washes apparent,i never intended to destroy them.I didnt think it would become so watercolorish but i love the way it turned.I kept the details where they were needed, and i went abstract to the background. I would even ask you to write a critique for this one(since watercolors are your thing),but honestly theres one single thing that scares me with you.And no i dont dare to say it out loud...

I did get quite a bit done, and yeah my back was sore, but I have my easel quite upright as I work so that helps a little. The bike helped but not nearly as much as you would have. I have reached some points in my painting, but like you I am always evolving and growing with it.

I don't see the washes here destroyed here, but enhanced and powerful. It turned out watercolourish and very beautiful indeed.

I would write a critique but I really struggle with the concept of them (I have only ever done one), usually when I view your work I write exactly what I see already. My thinking is that if you considered this finished and are satisfied with it then it has to be very good based on the standards you put on yourself. There is very little in this piece I might do differently myself, but again your style is yours and yours alone. I think the minute you put the first sketches on the paper for this it started on the path that you guided it through to get to this wonderful the final result.

I am curious what scares you about me in this context, maybe you will have to beam it to me mentally so I can figure it out.

XRlS In reply to kach-back [2013-06-17 04:29:25 +0000 UTC]

it was a thing anyway with the critique, since you made it clear you are not doing this, then theres no point in knowing what scares me about it either.

i think there are a lot of things you might do different yourself in this piece, true my style is my own,you have your own,and you are very good with it.
btw have you ever tried to do watercolor on canvas? its not easy...canvas absorbs the layers and the colors become blurry.. i will varnish it but i had to make a photo before this happens, because with the varnish comes the glare too...

aha you know me.If it doesnt pass MY tests,it wont get to be uploaded!

kach-back In reply to XRlS [2013-06-17 10:14:00 +0000 UTC]

Are you sure there's no point in me knowing, I am pretty sure you will post another watercolourish painting in the future and I might be tempted then. I think you should definitely adopt a "better safer than sorry" philosophy and offer up full disclosure here.

I have never tried watercolour on canvas in maybe other then as an experiment. I do recall it got absorbed quite readily and was very hard to be precise with. I have never blended paint with pencils either but the idea really intrigues me. The concept of being very fluid and yet still being able to add tight lines is quite enticing indeed.

What do you varnish water based paint and pencils with? I know with my acrylics I add this:[link] But I have never tried anything with my watercolours. If you took the photo at a slight angle you would eliminate the glare possibly, but you would then have to adjust the photo with Photoshop or something similar.

Yeah I never for a second thought that you would upload anything that did not have your personal seal of approval. I also know that you are well aware of the final result long before your hand has left the paper.

aha!
The "maybe"s and "If"s wont work with me,you little devil.
You said you are not doing this, end of discussion.

Dont try the canvas with the watercolors...do try though the combination of tiny details (CP) with the fluid abstract (watercolor) on your papers.

I use varnish for oil paintings a glossy one with acrylics AND oils.It makes the colors pop out.I ll send you a link tomorrow...

True. And true...

Crazy, I had just picked Michaela up from her basketball practice, and was preparing shrimp for dinner, and I occurred to me that my phone was left in my truck and it was nagging at me. I went out, got and something in my head said check dA, and look who is up late again.

You mean cute little devil right? Okay I will stop trying to wrestle the specific fear out of you, but if you were within reach I would tickle it out of you for sure.

I will definitely try a pencil and watercolour wash blend in the future, you don't have room at your table in the sunlight for me, do you? I could use the expert assistance.

Do send me the link(s) I am very curious to see what you use now. Please sleep now and have great dreams tonight.

Wow a late night little imp taking shots at me, how special. Actually Siri and I have a strictkly platonic relationship, she talks and I listen.

Okay then I will promise to write a critique on the submission of yours that you choose.

That is a very revered table spot to me, and I will be there I think one day.

30C is a killer for heat, and 7:30 AM is in a little over three hours. Maybe a shower and a rest on top of the covers just to settle you a bit might work.

Here is a song to help: [link]
