Description
Last one, for nowAnyway, Bolt and Mittens !
By the way... I didn't pay attention the first time, but yesterday, yes... She doesn't have claws anymore, right? She said it... And I remember that in USA and Canada, people often make rip off the claws of their cat... It's disguting !! In France, it's totally forbidden !! It's cruel, makes the cats suffer, and for what? Some little comfort? Damn, if you adopt a cat, you adopt the claws.
Mittens, Bolt (c) Disney

QUOI?!?

Et Will... Ca me dégoute.

merci !!

*hangs head in shame* One of my cat's was de-clawed. Not by my choice though. I hate the practice. I wish it was never done. I prevented it from happening to my second cat. At least neither or them go outside. I would worry too much.
About your art, you did a really great little series This one is my fave because I really loved Mittens. What did you work in? It looks like oil on board.

thank you ^^ No it's simply gouache on paper (oil take tooo much time to get dry and it's too expensive ^^" never used it!)
Declawed seems so horrible... I was shocked when I learned that. It's something totally unknown in France.

As "simple" as this looks like- it takes a long time to make such a work look like that. They're so cute- and I rarely use that word to describe other people's work. ^^

thank you ^^ you know, it didn't take that long... In a way, there is a big prt of chance when you work with paint. Sometimes the brush movement gives unexpected results !

I have adopted a few cats that were declawed and none of them have suffered. Its a choice, a sad one, but a choice that the owner makes. In my point of view, its better for them to get declawed because they were pissing off the owners by ripping up furniture then to be abandoned. Though a lot are still left in pounds and the wild.
But, at least with the ones I have and have had, have never suffered dearly from it. I live in the country were they can go outside and hunt and play, I live on a acre lot with trees and grass and various farm animals at times. One of my cats that was declawed before I got her hunts better then the my other cat who is not declawed (and born wild. I think hes a dud, poor thing -lol-)

do you know how they get declawed? By removing the last phallange. Like if we cut the end of your fingers - not only the nail, but all the end.
Ripping up furnitures? You think about that when you adopt a cat. And it's easy to make them understand not to do it... I had around 40 cats in my life and never had problem like that with them. They need to rip up, it's just easy to give them something special...
Declawing is a facility. Whatever you'll tell me about won't work. Your cats were lucky but if it was forbidden here, it was for a reason, vetos even refused to do it before the law. Lot of cats do suffer of that... No. Really, it's a facility. Like if your baby were crying all day, will you cut his vocal chords?
Sorry, i've got nothing against you, of course... Just i will never say it's a good pratice. Never. To me, it's mutilation, no more no less.

Of course I KNOW how its done, but I never said that I DO it, I never said that I am FOR it. I just said that I can see why people do it. Doesn't mean I AGREE to it.
I never said that I would do it or that agreed to it. I just stated that they dont ALL suffer. I have been lucky enough to not yet see a cat that has, though I know the stories and the pictures.

Rhynn In reply to Kikkiy [2009-02-10 19:56:28 +0000 UTC]
I personnally don't understand why people do it.
I'm sure you agree with me that it's just a matter of education. of the animal and of the owner. It's really sad that ignorance makes people do such things.
They say it's their choice, but in many many countries it's banned. It means that it is proved that it shouldn't be done.
Things are slowly starting to change in the US. At least that's a little encouraging.
Funny how all French react so strongly to the idea of declawing. With disgust and repulsion.
Still, It was very nice of you to adopt them.
Most of the animals I adopted were abandonned too.

I agree that it's a matter of education. It was always just one of those options that was available, but there was never any information available to me on it. One day, I saw an animation of a hand that would flash back and forth, with fingertips and without. I clicked the link, read up on it, and it horrified me. I never knew.
A lot of people are still like I was, in that the information was never presented or available to them. Education is the key!

Yes, totally. But the vets seems to be so greedy...
How can that be?
That's why we are here.
To prevent such things to happen by educating people on the subject.
It's not even a matter of opinion. It's completely scientifically proved that is is a very bad thing.
I really hope things change soon!
