My entry for the Ghost of the Gulag contest being held by @davederrickjr on Instagram. Going back to get the right tags for this post, I suddenly realized it said to draw the three main characters, not to just pick any characters to draw. But I had already finished this. Oops.

I knew I wanted to draw a lesser represented scene, so why not a little baby Ghost? Like baby Yoda, but fuzzier and with more emotional trauma. I opted to simplify his markings and make it look a bit more animation friendly, to go with my more cartoonish style. I went back and forth about how much to show of the mother, but ended up deciding that the more subtle hints to her fate fit better for what I was trying to do. Ghost of the Gulag (which you can read here www.ghostofthegulag.com/ ) is my favorite web comic currently. If you're into dark, gory animal stories like I am, I definitely recommend checking it out.
