The cats in this picture are Sky, the leader of silvercats and Nightfall, the leader of shadowcats.

The backstory of silvercats & shadowcats:

Silvercats and shadowcats have existed for thousands of years. They came to existence at the same time as the species of domestic cats.

About 100 years before the five clans came to the forest there lived one big clan of cats called Forestclan. Forestclan cats didn't believe in Starclan. They worshipped silvercats & shadowcats as gods. Unlike the modern clans, they lived in peace as one big clan and helped each other instead of fighting.

A couple decades before the modern clans came, an evil shadowcat named Pestilence forced other shadowcats under his tyrannical rule to start a war against silvercats. The war weakened silvercats' ability to help and communicate with Forestclan cats, which eventually resulted in the downfall of Forestclan. A natural disaster destroyed Forestclan because silvercats couldn't warn them about it. Most Forestclan cats died. The remaining few clan cats felt abandoned by silvercats and eventually lost faith in them.

The war between silvercats and shadowcats lasted for decades. Their war ended when Sky defeated Pestilence and banished him from the Shadow Forest & the Moon Forest. (A shadowcat named Nightfall became the new leader of shadowcats after Pestilence's downfall.) Silvercats tried to contact the modern forest clans without success; a group of new magical beings, Starclan cats, had superseded them. As an act of vengeance, Pestilence permanently weakened Silvercats' (and shadowcats') ability to communicate with the cats of the physical world. Pestilence's actions led to the cats of the physical world losing their faith in silvercats and turning to their dead ancestors' spirits (Starclan) for help and guidance instead of silvercats/shadowcats. Clan cats' faith in Starclan often led to violence and unjust punishments (for example: Brokenstar & Tigerstar cursed to become evil, Ashfur going to Starclan instead of Dark Forest, leaders getting nine lives despite being evil etc.), because unlike silvercats/shadowcats, Starclan cats are biased & imperfect.

Despite Pestilence damaging the connection between silvercats/shadowcats and the physical world, some cats have been able to communicate with them. Cats outside the clans are starting to believe in them again, because Starclan isn't blocking their connection and Pestilence isn't bothering silvercats anymore.
