Don't worry, that's just because of the approval process, an admin reviews everything before accepting. Thank you so much for entering!

I'm interested in submitting a story for this promt! But I'm not really that good with dA, and I have no idea as to where to submit the story ;__;? How should I submit it? Is there an specific folder or something in particular or should I just submit it into my dA page and link it here? Or how? ;n;

Here's my entry:
We Should Climb a Mountain    “When you’re older, you’ll realise that school was the peak of your life.”
Mr. Naylor concluded our sixth form assemblies with the same depressing line every week. I didn’t find it depressing back then, only now because I’m coming up close to the end of my education, and it feels like I’m on a train that won’t stop or slow down, and I’m not getting to enjoy the scenery, and we’re going way to fast, and I don’t even know where my stop is, and and and. Everything’s about to change, isn’t it?
Not everything, I guess. Some things never change, like the shakiness of your legs when your feet reach the bottom of a mountain, or the feeling you get when you turn and, looking back up, realise you can’t even see the peak anymore.
Did that really happen? Did we really climb it.
    Yes, we did, even t

I know something more original would have been all metaphoric etc, but i've needed an excuse to get this story out for a while!

Carver-dA In reply to ??? [2014-03-11 23:13:39 +0000 UTC]

Family Origins    Lincoln came into the apartment with a smile pulling at his lips. Aaron had just confirmed that they were ready to start the next part of their life together and he was ecstatic, he needed to talk to October as soon as possible. Coming into the open kitchen living room area of the home he found the woman in question. She was curled up in her ugly armchair by the window with her nose in her favorite novel.
She did not seem to notice his arrival and he suddenly felt his nerves choking him. Worry wrapped around his heart and he fled down the hall into his bedroom to wait for Aaron to come home to talk to October with him. He knew there was no reason to be afraid of her, she was his best friend and they had already discussed this situation when they were in high school. Still doubts came to the surface as he thought about it more.
She always seemed calm and happy with her life around Aaron and Lincoln without batting a my first entry. I will have a second one probably by tomorrow night.

Jade-of-the-Stones In reply to ??? [2014-03-10 01:02:12 +0000 UTC]

Dang... I'm conflicted when there is a word limit... Definitely helps me not write a 5,000 word prose, but still puts a damper on a persons freedom of imagination, forcing them to simplify the sentences that they input into a writing. The concept is very intriguing though, since it forces people to really think about what they could do with such a theme. I've heard of many stories about rising to the top through hard work, and various tales of the fall of the mighty. Though, I have never thought that a person can weave both plot-lines into one story that is limited to 1,000 words.
I wouldn't mind joining in. It has been a while since I wrote a third-party based short story.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RollingTomorrow In reply to Jade-of-the-Stones [2014-03-10 18:53:05 +0000 UTC]

This is actually our first word limit contest, we wanted to try something a little more challenging to get our writers to think about their every word.

As for the idea you mentioned that's one interpretation! Another could simply be trying to accomplish a task; rising to the top of the metaphorical mountain and then left with the task of coming back down again. It could be on the grand scape, like fame to fall, but smaller scales work too.

We'd love to read your work if you decide to enter!
