Description This is a Monkey Cup, also known as a Nepenthes or Tropical Pitcher Plant. This particular one, I believe, is a N. Ventricosa. This trap is a lot bigger than I thought it would be, it was grown after losing a few other traps, so like any other plant, all that stored energy went into the next one.

I purchased this at Lowes in 2007, in one of their "DeathCubes". Note the two bite marks that the kiitten got off before being flung about 20 feet from the plant. (Pretty sure it's toxic to kitties, so it wasn't just a worry about the plant.)

Ah, I had one I got at the Philadelphia Flower Fair (not sure that's what it's called, it was two years ago so I probably forgot). Unfortunately, it died the next winter due to lack of light. Pity, really-I liked it, and it was always fun seeing what it had caught in its pitchers. A few times it actually caught hornets, and from the outside I got the impression the doomed wasp had tried to sting the pitcher before sucumbing.
