Description In 18th century South Dakota, a swift fox (Vulpes velox) catches a large plains pocket gopher (Geomys bursarius). Back in these times, the swift fox occupied a geographic range almost three times larger than in the early 21st century. This allowed the swift fox to stand its ground as one of the most relevant carnivores of the great plains, but it has suffered declines since then. Fortunetly conservation efforts recovered this species and, what was once a very endangered species, is now a very stable one, with little threats compromising its survival.
