I think he needs to look more ferocious. Like jagged lines and asymmetry.

Hmm, Slash in the 2012 cartoon is rounder, larger, with huge spike's on his back and a fierce snarl.
In the 80's cartoon he looks like the other turtles, just shorter, stronger and with a rounder shell.
Here slash looks smaller and between scared and angry, not exactly his usual look. Any of that may have something to do with the missing bit.
