Description
Hello, everybody! I’m back! With the sad passing of Alan Young recently, I thought it would be a nice tribute to review something starring his most iconic character, Scrooge McDuck. The film is DuckTales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp. Now, I will be honest, I actually didn’t watch a lot of DuckTales growing up, because my TV didn’t have Toon Disney (It was tragic, I know), but I do have fond memories renting this from Blockbuster and watching it a lot of times as a kid. But does the film really hold up? Let’s find out.
The Imagery:
The animation in Ducktales already being impressive for an animated series in the late 80’s, the crew knew they had to step up in order to bring it to a new level on the big screen. And it definitely shows during some great chase scenes in the beginning, anytime Merlock goes through a transformation and also with that great climax at the end, the animators did a great job with this. 5/5, Amazing
The Writing:
Scrooge McDuck is bitter by the fact he lost a legendary treasure he’s been searching for, but all that he and his nephews have is a lamp. When the nephews rub the lamp, they of course release the Genie played by Rip Taylor. They try to keep him a secret so Scrooge doesn’t find out and to keep him hidden from an evil sorcerer named Merlock played by Christopher Lloyd. Now, a lot of people may look at the premise of this film and immediately think of Aladdin. But keep in mind, this was made two years before Aladdin and the studios working on both films were separate so, case closed! Anyway, the writing certainly does have an adventurous feeling as well as suspense, especially with the history between the Genie and Merlock. Especially explaining how Merlock is immortal and why Genie is afraid of him, because of a talisman that once placed on the lamp, Merlock has unlimited wishes. It also has a few good jokes, mostly from Scrooge McDuck. 5/5, Amazing
The Cast:
In honor of the late Alan Young, let’s start with his character, Scrooge McDuck. While he is of course stingy and cares a lot about money, his heart is still in the right place as the love he has for his family and friends is legit. I also love when they reunite in jail, it’s such a heartwarming scene. And of course, the performance by the late Alan Young brings Scrooge’s character to life. We also have Scrooge’s nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie and they’re likable characters, even if Webby is of course the ‘girly’ character. Then we have the Genie, and while Taylor is nowhere NEAR as funny as Robin Williams’ Genie, I think he gets a few good lines. And then we have the villain, Merlock, who is a GREAT villain. He has a fantastic backstory and the power and voice he has makes him a real threat to the characters. 5/5, Amazing
Final Rating:
DuckTales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp is a great film whether you’re a fan of the original series or not. With it’s great animation, smart writing and memorable characters, it’s a film that is worth more then checking out once! 5/5, Amazing

I never saw this movie, I only saw some DuckTales episodes on t.v. and on DVD. I wish Disney would reair the show on their Disney XD block.
