The Wario Apparition was an unfinished character, born out of players' desire to see Wario in Super Mario 64. Originally, it only appeared in some select copies. But after the apparition gained popularity on the internet, players desired to see this unfinished Wario in their own games.

Not Wario himself, mind you. People wanted to see the apparition. As a result, the Wario Apparition became widespread across several personalized copies.
