Nice image, I agree it has a very 'aliens' feel to it. I think it needs a bit more detail in some areas, you get a bit lost in some areas. At first I thought the spiders were some type of plant. Maybe you could have some of that bright light in the background spill into the foreground a bit more. Throwing some under the big spider might show that he is a creature that moves around. Would cast some pretty cool shadows under him too.
