It's from Final Fantasy actually. Carbuncle (Karbunkle) is this cute little green guy who, when you summon him, casts Reflect on the entire party.

Or, if you pair him with certain gems in 9 once you learn the summon, casts other nifty stuff, such as Haste or Vanish.
