Well, I think they showed him as bothe X-Men and Spider-man's enemy in the Ultimate universe. But his first true appearance was in X-Force. He was kicking their a$$! But he mostly faces Wolverine and Cable.. I think.

Actually, the more obvious character Deadpool is ripping off would be DC comics' Deathstroke. Wade Wilson is even an homage to Deathstroke's real name, Slade Wilson.
