This picture was inspired by a role-play session I had with XsargentwardX where Lupa took Karyana back to the Old World using the Eye of Hanad to see what the last days of that world were like. Given that Karyana's clothes would not blend in properly in our world and that the two arrived at night-time, Lupa picks the locks of a clothes store and hands Karyana a t-shirt, jeans and shoes to have her blend in. Though she tells Karyana that the people won't see her - they would appear as shadows -, there was one line that surprised me.

"If anyone asks you where you're from, just tell them you're from Manchester."

Given that Gon'an is based on pre-Industrialized England, it made some kind of sense. Also, XsargentwardX wanted me to have Melody Olsen, Roger Evans and their daughters - Ann and Elizabeth - also be English. This also worked out, as I wrote in the first chapters of 'The Barefoot Empress' that the High Queen of Gon'an - Queen Josephine - was the representative of humans to the Planars.

However, if Lupa told Karyana that no one would see them, why did she say that line? ...Unless that little detail was actually critical to the story.
