While many of us enjoy the luxury of watching TV on our couch with a cold can of soda or beer, the ice caps are melting at an alarming rate. Polar bears that need the ice to hunt and survive are drowning or starving; sometimes forced to search through dumpsters to survive. www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news…

Global warming is undeniably here. 2000-present date was the warmest decade on record worldwide www.epa.gov/climatechange/indi… . This is not part of the natural climate change but a human induced and an abnormally accelerated increase in temperature. Waiting for the countdown until all the ice caps and glacier have melted and water level has risen is not an option.

Many of us think that helping to prevent global warming is just about driving a hybrid car, or getting solar panels, which most people can't afford, so why bother?

While fossil fuel burning cars are a huge source of green house gasses, many other things also add up to create the problem. The manufacturing of anything takes up energy, which is usually created by burning fossil fuel like gas and coal. Relying on oil also lets big oil companies like BP and ExxonMobile get away with oil spills time and time again (with the most recent large spill in Yellowstone national park billingsgazette.com/news/local… ) With that in mind, I'm not saying we should give up everything we own and live in the wild, but any amount of reduce, reuse, and recycle will lessen the amount of new products that needs manufacturing. And that's something we can all do.

Taking public transportation, carpooling, or riding a bike are a cost efficient and healthy way to save energy and money. Even eating less meat (especially cows and pigs), can greatly help because it takes more energy to raise a cow than some crops of the same nutritional value. Cows are also a huge source of methane, which is another type of greenhouse gases that's responsible for global warming.

There are many other small things that we can all do help the environment like turning off the lights when we're not in the room, or not using the AC or heater if we could just take off or put on a jacket instead.

Change is not waiting for the scientists and government to come up with the solution, change starts with the little things we can do everyday.

It has come to my attention that my work closely resembles this one pepey.deviantart.com/art/globa… which was made 2 years before mine. I have never seen this until after I posted my drawing, and people started telling me about the similarities between the two. I did not copy the idea and the similarities are purely coincidental. Congrats to pepey who came up with it first, but please do not assume that I plagiarized.

Sometimes it feels I'm the only one aware of this, and always trying to take action. My family calls me an extremist.

Sigh.

But your artwork is create and vibrant, if not getting the point across. I applaud you for using your talents to send out serious messages. 10/10. How come nobody has put this as DD?

Wait... but if you're planning thats she dies in a matter of minuets... its really a matter of weeks. See, before all the water goes from the top to the bottom, the iceberg will clog up the whole, wich on the bottom leaves a little space to breath.

This is so beautiful! I wish more people can see this and think twice on what they're doing to the world TwT ive been watching stuff like 2012 or The Day after Tomorrow, and I feel they made those movies for a reason. Once again this is an amazing drawing! I hope you make more of this in the future!

I'm still wondering why some people believe that climate change and global warming is a hoax. I mean... how can they not notice the changes in their environment? //sorry for ranting//

Changes? If I said now, "It's hotter now; global warming must be happening...", then how much different would that be from the person who says, "It's snowing. So much for global warming..."? Same fallacy.

Mhm. Animals and water levels and whatnot. But, assuming it's happening, then what would you notice?

It's nice to find someone who still says "Have a great day!" even when on the opposing side. You're awesome.

Riia-sama In reply to DarkDescant [2016-05-12 02:33:26 +0000 UTC]

I can't really phrase it well, but I'd say the storms for example, (I guess if you live in a country where cyclones/typhoons are rare, then you probably wouldn't notice. But in my place, the average typhoons that come every year is about 20.) you'd take notice of the increase of super typhoons that forms.

Increase in global temperature is normal, except the increase we are experiencing right now is much greater than the normal increase that happens each year.
//I don't really like arguing 'Cause like what I've said I'm bad with explaining things //

While I agree that there is a rise in global temperature which affects climates everywhere, I still don't believe that human activities are the primary cause. Although I wholeheartedly agree that everyone has an obligation to watch their carbon footprint, I hold to the sun spot end of the perspective on 'global warming'. Just my two cents.

DarkDescant In reply to Creaphia24 [2016-05-11 19:32:36 +0000 UTC]

Nice guilt trip attempt.

But seriously, I don't think global warming is a problem. Yes, it exists. But no, it doesn't actually happen as fast as the media/weather people say it does, and no, humans don't contribute much to it, either.

Thermometers used by the weather company are usually in airports, on black ground. A while ago, they had them in fields and whatnot more often. Black ground is hotter, giving a seemingly increasing temperature.

Also, have a response to that point 1 of the article (I think I covered all the other ones with what I just said):
IMHO, animals are overrated. This may or may not have something to do with the fact that I was unable to discern something as cute (before I figured out which things are labeled 'cute'), but when I hear about things that say "We should all the animals going extinct! Save nature!", it rubs me the wrong way. When you talk about nature, you do realize that animals naturally have to adapt and naturally get killed off because they're not adequate, right? If you want to save nature so bad, stop messing with that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Creaphia24 In reply to DarkDescant [2016-05-12 05:37:53 +0000 UTC]

Yes i agree in some points. And you're right global worming is not YET a problem.

In the point about the animals I have to say you're right they need to adapt, but it's kind of humanity's thing that they want everything to stay as it is, while wanting to change everything so i guess thats why they want them to be saved. also life has a balance if we're talking about life and that gets messed around with. (but we kinda destroyed it years ago I think)

I am very glad that you believe in it's existence though because theres a lot of evidence.

Believe it or not, global warming is actually a misconception made in the 1800 when the earth was getting out of a mini ice age.

Creaphia24 In reply to 11dragonii [2016-05-09 07:11:50 +0000 UTC]

Yes I also have that information. Still I believe that we are speeding up that process and need to do something against it if we don't want our planet to become a giant desert

11dragonii In reply to Creaphia24 [2016-05-09 15:01:05 +0000 UTC]

I think we have a higher chance of earth becoming a bio-hazard then it becoming a giant desert.

Great art and attention to detail! I really appreciate this. Some people believe that global warming and climate change are the same thing, but it's not. Global warming is an effect of climate change, and that's why I get really annoyed when people say climate change is a hoax. Also, saying global warming is a hoax just because it's snowing is like the sun isn't real because it's raining or it's night. Besides, to people concerned with the economy, we'll face economic ruin anyway if we don't do anything to stop climate change. Just think for a moment. How much money would it take to rebuild a city from a flooding? How much to take care of refugees? How are we going to pay for new technology? Sorry for ranting. I'm not usually like this. It's just, people can be so . . . so dumb sometimes.

The world has an eco chain that humans are messing with. We're not only killing off species but ourselves as a consequence. Take away humans from the world and nature would repair itself and thrive regardless of our existence, but without nature we can not survive.
Beautiful drawing, I hope it gets people thinking. Gotta admit, that bottom half of the hourglass reminds me of the film 'The Day After Tomorrow.'
