Those brush strokes are magnificent. There is so much flow, so much gesture in this image.
It's crazy to think this was done digitally, the strokes look like they were made with their traditional counterparts. I can't stop looking at the waves, the tree bark and the feathers just, everything.

This is crazy cool. The look of the waves and tree gives this raw sense of natural---and also ethereal due to the cloudy bits of the tree---power. The sharp red of the sun and the thick black ring about it, along with the stormy sky, helps give this piece a sort of foreboding or ominous feel to it. I feel like the heron are fleeing from a sort of natural and/or spiritual force that's about to happen.
The brushstrokes are just lovely to stare at, too, and that line direction and varying thickness is on point
