My SO and I are looking forward to hiking up to Mauna Kea Observatories and doing some astrophotography in the future.
When I think about how beautiful it will be, I can't help but draw out the daydreams in anticipation.

Why does your version of The Heavens look so void of life? It's beautiful and I'm going to download this to be my screensaver, but I like the Bible depiction of heaven a lot better.

It was truly beautiful. I hope you get to go.
I'm sure you've thought about this already, but go on a new moon in order to see the stars better, and go during summer time so that you get a better view of the milky way. (I learned there that we face the more dense side of milky way during the summer).
Also, we were told that the better place to actually look at stars for humans was not at the top. Something about the elevation messing with our vision. But next to the visitor center, which is a little bit below, there was a trail which lead to a great lookout spot. You should probably ask the rangers what the best spot for viewing is.
Also, they did a little presentation talking about various celestial bodies which was surprisingly good.
Also make sure that you rent a 4WD car so that you can drive to the top. We actually drove up in a 2WD, but it was barely possible, and possibly not actually allowed.
We saw some people trying to catch a ride to the top but they didn't seem to have much luck. Sadly we were worried about giving them a ride since we weren't sure we were going to make it all the way up, and we also didn't want to take on the extra weight. Which might have been good since the car came really close to stopping in one place.
Also, completely unrelated but you *have* to do the manta rays scuba or snorkeling off of Kona. My fiance and I are certified so we did the scuba version and we both thought it was one of the coolest experiences of our lives.

This is really good, the only critique is that I think the part where the stars form the curve draw your eyes in too much. Other than that, I think it's a fantastic piece of art!
