FOLED that is stands for flexible oled. the tech exists, however still not public.

on the side, ive been drawing a cirtain comic piece for well longer than ive anticipated it to last, but, my work is very similar to yours in a way... except desktops dont exist anymore... hahaha....

I'd say a long time before we see anything remotely close to this. The only thing we've got in terms of true free-floating displays is a projection on a constant stream of mist which is bulky, expensive, and non-practical. It's basically your everyday projector except the surface is mist instead of a white canvas or wall in an attempt to mimic futuristic holographic displays.
Though displays on clear surfaces such as glass and see-through plastic is probably the best 'futuristic' display that's realistic with current technology. Search up "transparent transistors" or "OLED".

i heard of a guy a while ago who thought of using light as the resistance i.e. you fire a beam of light at another beam of light and where they meet it shows something like fire a yellow lazer across the path of a blue one and where they meet you would see a spec of green, dont know if it ever worked, would be awsome if it did though eh
when you look at how far technology has come in the past 100 years i wouldn't be surprised to see this sought of thing in the next 50 or so years
