January was a rollercoaster month for people like me who spend a lot of time on the internet. It seemed like every day there was some new or old drama surrounding someone or something dragging down my spirits. There were some nice things, sure, but not much. Thankfully, this month ended with an absolute banger that puts all of those to shame: Sonic X Shadow Generations!

Poor title aside, this game looks set to bring the already-superb Sonic Generations to current consoles AND give Sonic's arch-rival his own story to play through! The first look at his campaign looks fantastic, with iconic stages like Final Chase and Radical Highway making a return. We also got to see iconic bosses return, including the Biolizard and...BLACK DOOM?! I might be one of the few people who doesn't hate Black Doom outright, but I've always thought Mephiles was a much better nemesis to the Ultimate Lifeform. Plus, everyone assumed Black Doom was dead, with the only allusion to his possible survival coming from, of all things, a Sonic Twitter Takeover answer. But he's back, and from what we've seen so far, I'd say he looks better than ever! Needless to say, I've never felt more vindicated in being one of the few people on this damn planet who actually likes Shadow the Hedgehog (2005).

Anyways, that's all I've got for now. We've still got months to go before this game releases, and a lot can happen in that time. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this game lives up to its first impression, because if it does, then it'll probably take an already-superb game and elevate it even higher!
