Description Here is an explosion tutorial as Leth requested, although I don't think I'm so good at explosions that I can teach how to draw them... But I can teach some of the principles behind them!

But the best thing to do is really to watch video of explosions. (Some links are supplied in the Flash)

Edit: I just learned that "flame" explosions are officially called BLEVEs (pronounced "blev-ee"), or Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosions. You can look up this term on youtube to see a bunch of them!

Additionally, a deviant named ~ProfessorDoom has commented about the collapsing of the mystery of gamma ray bursters (pun intended):
"The core of the hypernova collapses directly into a black hole and two extremely energetic jets of plasma are emitted from its rotational poles at nearly the speed of light. These jets emit intense gamma rays, and are a candidate explanation for gamma ray bursts. In recent years a great deal of observational data on gamma ray bursts significantly increased our understanding of these events, and made clear that the collapse model produces explosions that differ only in detail from more or less ordinary supernovae. Nevertheless, they continue to sometimes be referred to in the literature as hypernovae. The word hypernova itself was coined by S.E. Woosley. [link] " Check the link for more information!

"Farts" are our word for hydrocarbon gases produced in the large intestine by bacteria. Stuff we can't digest in the stomach will get digested in the large intestine by bacteria, which release this gas as a byproduct. This gas is flammable, so when it is ignited, it will burn up.

I think this is a chemical reaction on an atomic level. I don't know what "flammable" means in terms of chemical reactions, but the gas becomes excited by the extreme heat of whatever is burning and it itself burns.

Not all gases will burn. Some gases, called noble or inert gases, are so unflammable that they will put fire out.

Do green explosions exist?

I think if something made out of copper exploded, you would get some green in the explosion.

You have a good tutorial!!! But i think i am learning about energy flows right now at my school ( and i am not from drawing school, i am from chemical engineering ) and i learn the exploding effect right now for my drawing hobby.

Ha, "What is exploding.... explodin'

That was funny

Good tutorial, I never really though about what EXACTLY causes explosions, I always had a rough idea.

I came across this looking for a simple way to draw explosions.
What I got was an incredible, in-depth, scientific, explanation on the nature of explosions and how this affects the way we draw them. This is not just a simple how-to-draw, but an actual tutorial that will help a person in the future as they continue to develop their artistic skills. I can't thank you enough for providing this! It is really informative and helpful! Thank you and thank you again!

personally i feel this would have been better served as a journal entry with images in it. not flash, my only real comment on the peice itself though is that there is way to many pages. sure enough you had info to tell people. but i felt it wasn't given as good as it could have been.
