Description Here is an explosion tutorial as Leth requested, although I don't think I'm so good at explosions that I can teach how to draw them... But I can teach some of the principles behind them!

But the best thing to do is really to watch video of explosions. (Some links are supplied in the Flash)

Edit: I just learned that "flame" explosions are officially called BLEVEs (pronounced "blev-ee"), or Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosions. You can look up this term on youtube to see a bunch of them!

Additionally, a deviant named ~ProfessorDoom has commented about the collapsing of the mystery of gamma ray bursters (pun intended):
"The core of the hypernova collapses directly into a black hole and two extremely energetic jets of plasma are emitted from its rotational poles at nearly the speed of light. These jets emit intense gamma rays, and are a candidate explanation for gamma ray bursts. In recent years a great deal of observational data on gamma ray bursts significantly increased our understanding of these events, and made clear that the collapse model produces explosions that differ only in detail from more or less ordinary supernovae. Nevertheless, they continue to sometimes be referred to in the literature as hypernovae. The word hypernova itself was coined by S.E. Woosley. [link] " Check the link for more information!

Wow! Great tutorial! It was very informative! I never knew there was so much behind drawing an accurate explosion.

The YouTube links you provided were very informative too! I've never thought of looking at videos as a reference...just pictures. Great job!

I've never been so interested in science before!

Though it's probably only because it was explosions, and everyone knows explosions are awesome.

This is really cool, thanks alot! I doubt I'll ever get round to using it, but it's still awesome to learn what really makes stuff burst into flames, and the animations were really good too. ^__^

Now this was most certainly useful. I definately understand explosions a lot more now, so I might just be able to actually draw/animate one a lot better. Cheers

amazing tutorial
it is important to realize the science behind what is being drawn..or painted or animated etc.

all too often it is something we artists tend to overlook or not put enough emphasis on

Wow. I already knew some of this from my physics-class, but you sure made this a lot easier to understand than studying for several hours in some lifeless school books.

I like the way you explained things in details with the nice flash-artwork ^^

If flash-movies were the instrument of learning, I'm sure that school would be a cakewalk

zack-sr In reply to Echo-MasterMind [2008-07-21 17:23:23 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree. I wonder how much effort that would take? Especially for the more complicated concepts. But if it is truly easier to absorb, I think it could be worth it to make some cool flash movies...

...to tell you the truth, I think teachers simply aren't skilled in that area, having spent too much time on the psychology of teaching to master "cool presentation". But some have! I wonder when schools will start having video screens at every desk...?

Thanks!!

Teachers need to include more explosions in the daily curriculum. Coolness -> memory retention.

So true... My teacher once told us about how he lit a balloon full of hydrogen and it had a hole in it so the balloon flew around the class with a tail of fire behind it. That was a pretty cool story.

What you made was more than enough to get the mind running and I really liked it, thank you. It explained a lot without the boring bits, and now I can kick my brother's mental kaboose with this That overall screen explosion reminded me of the older Japanese cartoons too!
