Description
Toby said all tweets are not canon , so everyone saying Sans is the older brother because of the aniki tweet has no leg to stand on now, haha. BUT while thinking about it a long while back, someone pitched the idea of Papyrus using aniki while Sans uses nii-sama, as befitting the Great Papyrus, which was an idea too cute to pass up.(Essentially both calling each other big brother in Japanese)
Sans, Papyrus (c) Undertale: been a while since I colored something this way

i think sans is the elder brother entirely because he's the more mature one. that's literally the only reason.

I have two brothers myself, and idk about that. the younger brother of the two seems more mature than the older one. .-. that could just be my family but idk

it's not just your family. people seem to want to differentiate themselves from those around them, meaning that younger siblings will almost always be completely different from how the older ones are.
and children almost always choose the opposite of their parents. joking parents? straight-laced child. it's weird and not always accurate, but often enough to be a good generalization.
and yes, my reasoning is completely irrational and has nothing to do with their ages.

nah it's okay, haha.
I mean I don't consciously make an effort to not be like my parents but it happens anyway. Just one of those things I guess.

First time I played, I thought Sans was older at first. But then when he said "man...isn't my brother the coolest?" I just thought "wait is Sans younger??? That hero worship is classic Younger Sibling behaviour"!

Given sociology, Papyrus certainly acts like the older brother, which was why I was a little surprised at Toby for his tweet implying that Sans was older. Usually the elder sibling is the one to be cautious and fuss about details. That doesn't necessarily mean these two aren't an exception, but I suppose it just bothers me a little less now that it's been debunked...

Wait, so it is or is not confirmed that Papyrus is younger? I've always thought the same thing, being a younger sibling of two myself and heavily relating to Sans, while also seeing a plethora of similarites between my older sister and Papyrus. I've also though so for the fact that traditionally the older sibling is the one "in charge", hence Papyrus always believing he's in charge, even though the brothers both share responsibility over each other. If only the age difference between two fictional skeletons wasn't made so confusing XD

The only hint towards age order came in an old tweet, but as Zarla pointed out in the description, those have been deemed not canon by Toby, so nothing's confirmed.

It's the opposite in my family. As the younger sibling I'm the nitpicky one, while my older sister is the lax one. But I always assumed Sans was older based on the fact that while Papyrus constantly frets over Sans verbally, Sans clearly takes his brother into consideration with every move he makes, without Papyrus being the wiser. Both siblings will always fret and try to take care of the other, but I've always considered it an older sibling thing to protect without making it obvious that's what they're doing (ie: I was bullied a lot as a kid, so eventually my sister started approaching and threatening anyone who seemed like they were doing more than just casual picking on. I wasn't aware of this until I was a teenager and a couple girls were talking crap about me ^^")

Yeah, I suppose it's different in every family My sister and I have always kind of had each other's backs throughout things. My sister is definitely more obvious about it, telling me when she's trying to resolve things between me and others (though generally it's just between me and my mother XD), while I've always kept it a little discrete, usually just keeping it between me and the people picking on her unless she finds out otherwise (she was almost picked on a lot more than me as a kid, most likely for being the overachieving and enthusiastic cinnamon roll she is XD). I remember when I was still in elementary school and she was still in middle school, there was a girl picking on her on our bus and I confronted her about it, and somehow, though I was just a smol twig, it must've worked because she never complained about being picked on by that girl after that point, and I didn't hear anything going on on the bus. More recently, one of her old friends (both of them were are still are sophomores in college) was giving her trouble, and I, some smol highschool freshman, may or may not have threatened him, ironically using an Undertale reference since I knew we both knew the game and what it meant. Surprisingly it worked and I didn't get murdered by this much older, athletic dude. I found it pretty funny how my sister found out about it by him texting her asking her to make sure I didn't hate his guts, explaining that the reference was basically saying that I would find a way to rip him to shreds if he hurt her innocent, trusting self, since she didn't know what it meant before xD Idk sorry I just said like a paragraph worth of pointless storytime to you, I just thought it was a funny, slightly Undertale-ish way of how my sister and I relate to Sans and Papyrus.

You are a very glorious younger sister xD I guess it boils down to whoever is the cinnamon roll in the sibling relationship. The most recent debacle was actually me having an issue with my room mate on campus. Long story short we had a lot of disagreements, as well as completely different schedules, and she wouldn't stop until she had everything her way. It came down to me not being able to use the room except for sleeping and her leaving the windows open while people were smoking under the building, so being the asthmatic, anxious person I am it really started effecting my physical and mental health. I outright refused to let my sister visit me until I moved out (which I did), because I knew the moment she got on this campus she'd beat the living crap out of the poor girl ^^" Mind you, she wasn't the first to make the threat (because I'm apparently a nice little cinnamon roll to a lot of people I associate with ;u but she's the only person I know who would do it /and/ get away with it without even me knowing for certain it happened.

I honestly always liked the idea of Papyrus being the older brother because that just makes things funnier, in my opinion (naive, hilarious and ridiculously over-the-top older sibling; responsible, calm and cool younger sibling). Β Regardless, this is a very adorable piece with a lovely and vibrant colour scheme. Β Good job!

I always thought that Sans was the older brother because of how he treates Papyrus. Let's be honest sometimes Pap is a bit ridiculous (but still funny) and no one in Snowdin takes him seriously, but Sans is the only one that always says how cool his brother is. He's always looking after him, he is always following Papyrus in his weird and crazy plans to become part of the royal guard and he looks proud of him. He pretty much does whatever makes Papyrus happy.
That actitude seems to fit a lot in the role of a caring older brother
