You know gaster will make a mistake.
The more you know about someone, the more you relate, the more you care. It really shows how well he knows the skelebros. So much as he cares about what they're feeling when they aren't acting normal. That's his mistake.

I feel like Sans was showing some restraint with his insults before, but now that he's had this realization that he's going to be tortured no matter what and there's really not much he can do to stop it, all bars are kinda down.

It's nice to see that even the little details are paid attention to, like how Gaster has to pull down his sleeve to hold the broken shards since there's a hole in his hand.

Poor Sans. Not only has he come to the realization that all of his efforts are for nothing, he's lost all will to do anything. For his entire life he's been measured by his worth to his brother, and his desperate act to rescue Papyrus, the one thing that gives him value and reason to live, is thwarted by that very person. He and Papyrus will be tortured, and there is nothing he can do to stop it. Why bother fight when it's useless? Why bother care when there's nothing he can do to stop it? Gaster was hoping that the mending of their bond would restore Sans to his past state, but the damage is done.
Not only that, he can't understand Papyrus's zealous adherence to his ideals. And in that, he realizes that he doesn't understand just as much as Gaster does. He would have escaped if he could, used any means to fight, just like Gaster. He has more in common with their torturer and father than with his own brother. The person who all of his worth is tied to. His reason for living is unrelatable, while the source of all of his pain is. The betrayal of Papyrus and the realization of how close he is to Gaster is more than enough to kill what little will to live he had. You could see it in his response to Papyrus, when Papyrus promised that they would get out of there. He doesn't believe Papyrus, especially since their best chance was destroyed by him. What's the point in living, when it's all pain? Even in the realization that Gaster doesn't care about them and that they're all they've got, their differences are enough to be at cross purposes.
In his shoes, I would have given up as well. I can imagine the soul sucking pain he is in, the kind that makes the emptiness of exhaustion a relief. I haven't seen him manifest his pupils for more than a handful of scenes in the last few comics. He's practically sleepwalking through life, because living it is too painful.
Where does he get that drive to fight the player in Judgement Hall in the future? Even if he knows that your success will wreak irreparable damage on the timeline, how does he muster the will to fight when he knows it's for naught? All he could do it force the player to rage quit; there's no point. He has to shake this self loathing and apathy somehow.
Now, that last comment has two meanings. It can be a reference to him knowing that Gaster watches them at night; that he's aware of how insanely amused and horrified Sans is at their similarities (callback to the chess game too! I like it). Or, it could be Sans's weak attempt at insulting Gaster, with the implication that Sans is comparing himself to the thing he hates the most. It's an interesting and troubling sign.
I apologize for the rambling. I love these interactions the two have. As always, it's a delight.

I love how cleanly you summed up the last couple of comics in just a couple of paragraphs. As a person who understands concepts best when they're under the jurisdiction of the pen, I appreciate a person with your talent for analyzing things that give me the understanding I need to really grasp the layers of Zarla's simple yet emotionally complex story.
That said, it's even more horrifying seeing the concept in action in this comic. I love being able to read through a comic once, reading through a defined explanation, then reading through the comic again with a greater understanding.
